#
[tb]
Mondays I can definitely do
#
[tantek]
uh help with the HWC West automatic meeting thing - the Zoom says it's scheduled for 7/22 when you try to use the "live now" link to join. aaronpk, GWG
#

#
aaronpk
shouldn't matter as long as a host is in the meeting
#
[tantek]
no it matters because you get rejected instead of being told to wait for the host
#
[tantek]
so people are bouncing while waiting for a host
#
[tantek]
instead of collecting in the "lobby"
#
Salt[m]
Yeah, can't get it going, will set up an alt room
#
Salt[m]
Sorry for the delay
#
GWG
Did someone clone last week's event and not set up a new meeting
#
aaronpk
that seems likely
#
aaronpk
Salt[m]: did you get the password for zoom or find someone who has it to host?
#
Salt[m]
Nope, but I have a zoom premium if no one can get it going
#
[tantek]
maybe cloning an event should clear the "live meeting" link?
#
Salt[m]
Just fiddling with internet
#
aaronpk
did you pick someone to host or was that going to be you?
#
aaronpk
feel free to replace the meeting link in the event with your own if that's fastest
#
aaronpk
makes a note to not duplicate the meeting link when cloning an event
#
[tantek]
aaronpk want a meetable issue?
#
Loqi
[aaronpk] #110 Don't duplicate meeting link when cloning an event
#
[tantek]
checks to see if aaronpk owns his issues 🙂
#
aaronpk
i mostly do not hehe
#
[chrisaldrich]
Does that fix the proximal issue of having a zoom room for now?
#
[chrisaldrich]
Shall I set one up for us?
#
aaronpk
lets the HWC hosts figure that out
#
[chrisaldrich]
I can set one up for us if you want Salt...
#
[tantek]
keeps reloading the event to see if the zoom changes
#
[tantek]
Salt[m] want to update the event or want help with that?
#
Salt[m]
updating the event rihgt now

↩️ Mo, Twitter is as good as anything! I've added a few links to the event page to help out, but there's still a bit of a rabbit hole depending on how you want to do it, so I'm going to write up some better documentation to make it easier. https://boffosocko.com/2020/07/28/getting-started-with-wordpress-an-indiewebcamp-pop-up-session-2/?replytocom=298074#respond

Zegnat: These pop-ups are working out well for closing down things we never get to sit down and discuss
#
Zegnat
Yeah, I feel like we sometimes managed to use mf2 sessions for that at in-person events. But without those...

#
GWG
A list for the proposal?
#
Zegnat
Oh, yeah, I can probably spare a break tomorrow to go through some microformats repos and see what issues seem prime for consideration
#
GWG
Zegnat: No urgency, we don't have a date...but I figured that might get some interest in one
#
GWG
I selfishly want to have all these conversations about Micropub and IndieAuth and Microformats so I'm doing my best to encourage

So I’m in the middle of registering application/feed+json for JSON Feed, and the question came up about who or what organization should be responsible for changes to the registration. [tantek] suggested that maybe JSON Feed should be listed on spec.indieweb.org, since it’s in the spirit of other IndieWeb formats. Anyone have any thoughts about that, pros/cons and how we could move forward?
#
GWG
[manton]: I think the question is what makes a specification a community one?
#
aaronpk
it's interesting because when we were doing these specs in the w3c working group there was a clear governing body for that work. but that group concluded a few years ago and we're now continuing to develop these independently
#
aaronpk
so in effect we have become a standards organization, even if a loosely defined one
#
GWG
aaronpk: So, is it time to decide what makes a spec one we'll 'sponsor'?
#
[manton]
[aaronpk] Yeah, that makes sense. The standards need to continue to evolve.
#
aaronpk
i guess it does GWG
#
GWG
Well, if we stick with our current principles...a specification has to be consumed and published by someone to be sponsored by us.
#
GWG
So, multiple adopters.
#
GWG
Which JSONFeed meets
#
GWG
What other principles are part of our specifications?
#
[manton]
When I think of specs that are in the spirit of IndieWeb /principles, I think of things that relate to people owning their content, sites interoperating, etc.
#
GWG
[manton]: What makes JSONFeed unique compared to RSS, Atom, etc?
#
[manton]
@GWG Good question. From my perspective, RSS and Atom have been frozen forever, whereas JSON Feed is a newer format and could continue to improve, including thinking about whether some parts of JSON Feed and JF2 could be made more similar, so that it’s easier to work with them.

i think there is some inherent bias against XML parsing in general
#
[tw2113]
“JSON is just easier!”
#
GWG
[manton]: Interesting conversation to have.
#
[manton]
In other words, there’s no value in moving RSS/Atom under the IndieWeb because nothing will ever happen with those formats.

[chrisaldrich]
IndieWeb feels like the working group we've always needed... was there a clear enough mandate on the recent IndieWeb & W3C question?
#
[manton]
[chrisaldrich] This is where I’d love some insight, because I wasn’t around for the W3C working group. Does the IndieWeb need to become any more formal about the process to be a “standards organization”, or is it more about just saying: yes, we’re doing this, and these standards will be taken care of here, outside the W3C or IETF.
#
aaronpk
anyone can be a working group, there's no working group oversight working group :P
#
aaronpk
openid did that themselves too
