[KevinMarks]++ and not to encourage a double-reply, but next time consider linking to our code of conduct? unless you think it's insufficient in which case we should fix it! I'm hoping the code helps discourage a-hole behaviors

so this article (and analysis and diagram) has me pretty well convinced we should not organize any events that require getting on a plane until there's widespread vaccinations: https://www.newsroom.co.nz/how-covid-19-spread-on-a-flight-to-nz

[tantek]
p.s. please avoiding flying

Even after widespread vaccination there remains the other issue of a climate crisis. Avoid flying if there are viable alternatives to get to events with less impact on the environment. Try to organize events in central locations where there’s a good choice of ground-based transport routes

[calumryan] I believe at the most recent IWC Brighton, there was a session on sustainability of/for the community itself where we discussed flights etc. tradeoffs. That topic may be worth creating a separate page for
#
[tantek]
what is sustainability
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "sustainability" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "sustainability is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
sustainability is a principle and set of practices usually about making sure that something is environmentally low or non-impactful, from technology (like [[green computing]]), to corporate and personal practices (choice of energy provider, minimizing flights).

presuming they treat it like Microsoft treated GitHub, I'd say be prepared for potentially *more* access/features in free plans

IDK the history of how Salesforce treats acquisitions though

I think there is some additional IndieWeb angle here, don't they own Heroku?

I'm new to mediawiki stuff. I'd like to clarify on the wiki that a "now page" is a kind of https://indieweb.org/page. What's the best way to do that? Would edit both the now and page wiki-pages?

b3u, perhaps add a link to "now" to this existing list? https://indieweb.org/page#Why
#
[tantek]
and for the other way around, you can add a See Also via chat like this:

[tantek]
now << page

b3u, I wouldn't worry about Mediawiki categories, they're kinda of hard to actually distributively maintain and be usable at all by all but the largest of communities, and even they (Wikipedia) had to build a bunch of bots just to maintain Category: pages
#
[tantek]
a few dedicated folks use them specifically for Events related categorization but those have a very precise meaning, and the small set of folks that work on them work hard to keep them fairly comprehensive
#
[tantek]
so unless you're signing up to both document how a category works, AND dedicate yourself to making sure it is comprehensively maintained, don't bother with creating any new Category: uses / pages
#
[tantek]
maybe I should put that guidance in wikify
#
[tantek]
b3u BTW ICYMI
#
[tantek]
what is wikify
#
Loqi
wikifying is the practice of capturing information and ideas on the wiki https://indieweb.org/wikify
#
b3u
okay, got it. Currently working on my user page.
#
b3u
thank you
#
aaronpk
we have a few categories, but as you will very quickly notice by looking at this list, some of them get out of date real fast https://indieweb.org/Special:Categories
#
aaronpk
they tend to work better for very tightly coordinated sets of pages, not general/broad things
#
aaronpk
for example the indieauth category does a good job of collecting all the various terminology of indieauth here https://indieweb.org/Category:IndieAuth
#
[tantek]
^ good example, and note that you (aaronpk) probably do a lot of deliberate maintenance of that Category to make it current / comprehensive
