The true challenge - how can I make posting content on my own space feel more comfortable than posting it on <insert platform here>? If I can get there, then I can IndieWeb the rest of it - I just need to make my own environment more enticing to post in.

↩️ That, and more. I want to be able to do https://indieweb.org/POSSE for "micro-blog" posts; eg, if I wanted to reply to this, I should be able to do that on my own site, reference this tweet, and have it propagate back out to Twitter.

Not being funny but if you are shocked by the recent deplatforming trends, among your thought leaders for a way out should be folks like @indiewebcamp or the @fsf who have been banging on about self protection from privacy violation, content silos, centralised internet for years.

↩️ Another outstanding article, Joanna! I’d encourage you to look at the IndieWeb movement, and examples of services that embrace giving users control, and eschew algorithms entirely, like http://Micro.blog. I worked on an IndieWeb powered “reader” - https://alltogethernow.io

Joanna continues to do incredible work shining a light on the challenges of living as a user of the modern social web. My advice? (1) Delete Facebook (2) Use chronological timeline on Twitter (3) Get a domain & website you control (4) Use a social reader https://aaronparecki.com/2018/04/20/46/indieweb-reader-my-new-home-on-the-internet

I'm now thinking that due to the Newsletter recognizing new pages but *not* recognizing when a redirect gets turned into a new page, it may be better to delete a redirect then recreate it as a new page instead of merely "editing" it
#
[tantek]
Thoughts? aaronpk?
#
aaronpk
depends on how it determines something is a new page
#
aaronpk
i think there's a flag in the MW API that tells it a page is new
#
[tantek]
I'm saying IDK a way to automatically detect redirect -> content transitions (meaning "new" semantically)
#
[tantek]
so delete/recreate is a workaround
#
aaronpk
is there a recent example of an edit changing something from a redirect to a page?
#
aaronpk
there's a "redirect" property in the API but i can't tell what it does

With all possible respect, one can and should be able to write semantic markup and"simply apply' #CSS to it. Done well, it's better than what we have today I'd contend! #WebDev #WebDesign #OpenWebStack #IndieWeb
