It's only eight minutes, but it's eight minutes well spent: https://briefs.video/videos/why-the-indieweb/ from @heydonworks - plus - learn about barbecue fetishists!

Ome Heydon heeft weer een dijk van een video over Het Internet geproduceerd, specifiek over: het IndieWeb. Niet eens technisch en genoeg leuks voor de jeugd. Klik:

This is actually AMAZING and they need a web-award for their description of the modern web (not indieweb)

Ever wondered what is wrong with the internet? (Spoiler: It's capitalism!) @heydonworks put it perfectly into words and imagery in a 7 minute video -> https://briefs.video/videos/why-the-indieweb/

i'm not sure "fediverse" should be on the jargon list, since it is a term used by users, not developers
#
aaronpk
activitypub i'm on the fence about
#
sknebel
if we note that more people outside our circles notice webmention that too IMHO

#
sknebel
i.e. yes, a mention of it can easily be -dev, but it isn't necessarily
#
aaronpk
as soon as it can be used to describe a user-facing feature it shouldn't be on that list
#
sknebel
right.

edited /Category:jargon (-47) "/* Keywords */ remove "fediverse" and "webmention" since they can be used in a discussion only about user features not development"

I would need to review the logs for numbers, but for activitypub I also feel like if someone whos not familiar with our conventions regarding channels mentions it its probably also more in the "what do you think about mastodon etc" realm
#
sknebel
and I'd err on the "lets not have an algorithm try adjust human behaviour" side of things given why we are here ;)
#
sknebel
(totally random side note: for things like this I wish chat systems had a feature for an inbuild glossary, making a community-specific definition easily available in the chat UI. "What is..." is as close as we can get I guess, but far from perfect
#
aaronpk
i kinda want to add that to the chat logs, any time a word is mentioned that is a wiki page it gets autolinked
#
sknebel
ah, nice
#
sknebel
clearly I don't use them enough :D
#
aaronpk
oh no that doesn't exist right now, i was saying i like the idea :)
#
sknebel
ah, right, sorry
#
sknebel
for everything is maybe tricky to not stumble over lulz-pages etc al lthe time, but at least for a whitelist thats a good idea
#
sknebel
... I guess technically the slack bridge could do that too?
#
aaronpk
oh yeah it can
#
aaronpk
it does already if you add a slash: /lulz
#
aaronpk
but, i don’t think i can modify someone’s text with a slack bot so it only works one way
#
sknebel
it works irc2slack, true
#
sknebel
not for slack users speaking
#
sknebel
(basically I want to make it easy for someone just reading to discover the definition without having to out htemselves as "I don't know that")
#
aaronpk
yeah, and also to avoid the “what is “ questions by people who do know who are saying that just to get the page linked
#
@mdrockwell
Alright, I checked in the https://indiewebify.me/ validator and the h-card appears to be working properly now. So let me just test to see if I can send myself a Webmention with all the proper info. https://mike.rockwell.mx/asides/799

↩️ So Micropub is the open standard that allows you to use a wealth of clients (https://indieweb.org/Micropub/Clients) to publish to your site. Twitter -> site Webmentions can be done with Bridgy. If you want to publish to Twitter from your site, you'll want something… https://www.jvt.me/mf2/2021/02/auyd3/
