↩️ there are several open source ones at https://indieweb.org/Webmention#Publisher_Services I found writing http://mention.tech fairly straightforward; the bit that requires more thought is how you present different kinds of responses https://indieweb.org/responses

hey all I'm going to delete https://indieweb.org/wiki_patrolling because it's got zero edits since creation 5+ years ago has nothing really indieweb specific, and we've long since been documenting such things at /wikify

yikes it looks like kylewm(.)com (like literally going to the home page) is trying to make you download a PHP script with only spaces or something in the name. sharing here because that looks like a bad attempt at hacking a vulnerability or something and maybe we should disable all kylewm .com links on the wiki? anyone been in touch with kylewm [kylewm] and or know the status of that domain? [benatwork] benwerd?
#
[tantek]
(let's see if that works)
#
aaronpk
looks like it's the wordpress index.php file
#

like php is disabled on the server so it's outputting the text file

thanks aaronpk, this sounds like a good policy: "lost the domain then i would say yes let's remove the links from the wiki" (or at least de-activate them or replace them with internet archive links)
#
[tantek]
would be interested in others's thoughts, something we should likely explicitly add to /wikify
#
[tantek]
does it make sense to keep track of such "lost indieweb domains" on a list / page to make it easier for folks editing/updating pages to check a list rather than have to remember (or check themselves) each domain?
#
GWG
I think Internet archive... maybe some sort of wiki template?

#

I think that does make sense, and it is a separate category from site deaths
#
[KevinMarks]
As well as archive links, git links make sense for some of them
#
[tantek]
ok going with lost sites until someone comes up with a better name
#
[tantek]
what are lost sites
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "lost sites" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "lost sites is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
[tantek]
what is a zombie
#
Loqi
zombie is in the context of the web a website that had died (site-deaths), perhaps due to domain registration neglect, and has been brought back by some other looking sorta like it did before, but oddly broken, often with spam pages/links added, and eats a lot of CPU likely due to abusive scripts https://indieweb.org/zombie
#
[tantek]
lost sites are former IndieWeb sites on domains that the owner lost control over, often taken over by other parties, sometimes turned into a [[zombie]]; links to such domains should be replaced with Internet Archive versions.

UPDATE: Looks like we received a suspension warning yesterday, removed the offending URL within hours, and were nevertheless suspended this morning, though the URL was no longer reachable. We’re on the phone w/ registrar to restore service.

@urlscanio
I should start collecting these in case http://urlscan.io ever has home-grown availability issues, then I can point to the dozens of high-profile outages happening each year (Slack, GitHub, AWS, Backblaze, Google) and confidently say "It happens to the best of us" 🙃
(twitter.com/_/status/1362132395428900865)
#
[tantek]
what is outage
#
Loqi
outage also known as down as in the opposite of "up" in the context of the indieweb, and refers to an interruption to a service or server, when it is not responding as it should, which could mean its DNS is not resolving, or the server is not responding, or it is responding with a particular error such as a 502 Bad Gateway https://indieweb.org/outage
