Yeah, micro.blog is pretty much what Sergey describes:
#
@sergeykarayev
It should be *extremely* easy to self-host all of your tweets, instas, tiktoks, youtubes, mediums, substacks, etc. I'm imagining a service where you sign up, register your own domain, link all of these accounts, and everything else is automatic.

We do not, in fact, have to accept that the #indieweb or #OpenWeb is dead. It's survived every trendy thing thrown at it and it'll continue to do so.

#
@cswordpress
Here's the thing about the #indieweb. Once you have a domain or site, you're there. From that point, you can enable whichever other building blocks you like. Or not. But just because you're not using certain building blocks doesn't mean it's not indieweb.

One thing I learned from getting published in @CSS Tricks is the *sheer amount* of sites that solely exist to repost CSS Tricks. I made an open source domain blocklist of these spam sites: https://github.com/sw-yx/domainblocklist Anyone know why they do this? They set canonicals to themselves.. https://twitter.com/css/status/1339016889285140481 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Eqcu6rTU0AYv39Q.png

Okay, I documented the phenomenon on the /CSS-Tricks page. How should that be referenced on the blocklist, spam, and/or webmentions pages?

↩️ This makes me desperately want to finish my drafted post comparing IndieWeb w/ ham radio: a similarly decentralized network of fiercely independent hobbyists who pride themselves robustness, except that when you spam ham, you go to JAIL https://wiki.c2.com/?HamRadioPests

↩️ Anyways https://indieweb.org/Vouch is kind of interesting but the whole concept of decentralization is indeed a double-edged sword!!!

capjamesg, I think there is general agreement that tutorials are good, they complement reference documentation, and more tutorials are welcome. However there is one big problem with tutorials
#
[tantek]
tutorials are not sustainable documentation. that is, once posted, rarely are they ever actually updated, so they grow stale in a year or two
#
[tantek]
what is a tutorial
#
Loqi
Get started on the indieweb by connecting with the indiewebcamp community, getting a personal domain, a place for your content, and setting up your home page and other indieweb essentials https://indieweb.org/tutorial
#
[tantek]
a bit buried, but check these out if you want to help improve the tutorials on the wiki (or write new ones for topics that aren't covered) https://indieweb.org/Getting_Started#IndieWeb_CMS_and_Hosting

also a bit surprised no one is pointing out the irony of "web3" evangelists having to use "web2" to beg people to learn about their nonsense because they haven't even built anything real enough to post tweet-like content

@gwg looking forward to hearing more. "the wiki is confusing" - we have a getting started and quick start page ... those, to me, should be combined and refined to be like a Quick Start handbook you get with a new appliance
#
[Scott_Jack]
And I'm thinking out loud, but maybe I should just make a change - the Quick Start page highlights cost as a major reason for services like micro.blog (which I disagree with - the major reason is eliminating dev work for normal people that want to focus on writing) and then puts price at the very bottom of the comparison chart
#
GWG
[Scott_Jack]: I'm going to work on the WordPress part of it
