I've been enjoying Mastodon a lot. It's part of the Fediverse. It fits a similar 'hole' to Twitter but has features that prevent what makes Twitter so bad.
I've also heard good stuff about "IndieWeb" but haven't looked into it yet. (twitter.com/_/status/1556512476497428480)
