[tantek]4 capjamesg, re: "Which of these definitions should be the canonical one", IMO when there are duplicate pages, for any topic, we should always merge any newer pages into the oldest one, and then rename the oldest one to the canonical name/topic.

[tantek]4 this is to discourage people from intentionally or not creating duplicate pages, and then preferring those pages over the original that was created.

[tantek]4 it's much better to show the original (oldest) creation date for a topic / proper noun

[tantek]4 even if it is a smaller page to begin with
#
[tantek]4 it also incentivizes at least some effort to see if a topic has already been documented on the wiki rather than creating a new page, since edit history is preserved only on the oldest page, not on any newer pages

[tantek]4 yes the wiki auto-embeds image links, however that mechanism doesn't provide a way to set alt text for the image so it should only be used for things that are purely decorative
