As you may recall: • MIT partly hosts W3C, but withdraws Dec 31 • A W3C nonprofit needs to take over on Jan 1 • MIT has assets (dues, contracts, IP…) to transfer to new W3C • I was elected to the W3C Board & in the negotiations Two weeks from cutover it's going… poorly. 🧵

good thing we host our own living specs, but... we link to a ton of stuff on w3c.org. and, uh, kind of rely on the org as bearer of standards processes to lend legitimacy to various specs. 🤔

[schmarty] bunch of discussion about this in #indieweb-chat yesterday

Ooof on another meta note, the site (individual pages) is really bad in mobile. The left sidebar takes up half the pace and puts the page content into a very narrow column that is nearly unusable
#
[tantek]
Presumably this happened with the wiki / theme updates months ago?

IIRC the Wiki looked like that for quite some time on mobile
#
[jacky]
like since the start of this year
#
[schmarty]
yes it is definitely a side-effect of the mediawiki update. several custom styles were blown away 😞
#
[tantek]
Yeah I’m mixed about whether that should have been a blocker regression

i didn't know that was going to happen, otherwise i wouldn't have updated

Haven't had a chance to work on it, but more at https://indieweb.org/2022-12-indieweb-gift-calendar#In_progress
#

Partially because I may need to install MediaWiki somewhere to tinker with it :/
#
gRegor
And this month has been much busier than expected

this is a much nicer display of micropub clients compared to our wiki page! https://getindiekit.com/clients
#
barnaby
that’s not so difficult 😅 but I do like the screenshots on the wiki page, they make superficial comparisons much easier

what are micropub clients
#
Loqi
Micropub clients are sites and client applications that publish to servers via Micropub https://indieweb.org/micropub-clients

[tantek]
barnaby, if it's not difficult, there you go ^
#
[tantek]
I agree re: screenshots
#
[tantek]
we could do a layout like: icon of the app | description | screenshot thumbnail
#
[tantek]
all on a "row", and clicking the screenshot thumbnail would load the larger version
#
[tantek]
there's also the question of should we keep one big flat client list for ALL Micropub clients, or should we cluster them into "general clients" and "specialty clients" e.g. indiebookclub & Kapowski, and "silo bridging clients" e.g. OwnYourSwarm, and frankly "OSS you have to build"
#
[tantek]
right now the one big alphabetical list is not particularly user-friendly for folks that want to "try" different clients
