Planning on adding more details for remote attendees for this weekend’s IndieWebCamp. Is there anything we need to set up beforehand, such as online meeting rooms, etc.? How have we handled this previously?

[Paul_Robert_Ll]: we can create as many zoom accounts as you have parallel tracks and gear for

Is this something we can do on the day (based on need), or something we can/should do ahead of time? I think we have capacity for 5 concurrent sessions in the venue, if needed.
#

The zoom accounts are easy to spin up but you'll need to prepare laptops/mics ahead of time

^ interesting contrast there between what Slack shows vs the logs: https://chat.indieweb.org/dev/2024-03-04/1709524276783900
#
aaronpk
is slack transforming that into a link?
#
aaronpk
i don't think i've ever accounted for slack text that is hyperlinked

well that's fun
#

what is even the right behavior for the gateway here? only show the text? expand to show both in some sort of plaintext?
#
[tantek]
as a literal design, "only show the text" should work and be more predictable, then the receiver/reader has the responsibility of doing any autolinking
#
[tantek]
Including the logs
#
aaronpk
this isn't about autolinking

ah i think this is the code that decides what to do with slack link entities https://github.com/aaronpk/Slack-IRC-Gateway/blob/main/gateway.js#L403

[tantek]
well it's sorta about both
#
[tantek]
Slack WILL auto-link "link-like" things for you, AND you as a user can select a range of text and paste a URL which will turn that range of text into a link (before you post)
#
[tantek]
Can you actually tell the difference in the gateway WHO added the link? Whether it was a Slack client doing autolinking or a user explicitly linking a piece of text?
#
aaronpk
no i don't think so
#
aaronpk
it comes through as `<url|text>` in the API in all cases
#
[tantek]
right, this is my point
#
[tantek]
and I'm willing to be 99% of the time it is auto-linking by a Slack client
#
[tantek]
especially in our context
#
[tantek]
to bet*
#
[tantek]
that's why I said this is about auto-linking
