[tantek][Paul_Robert_Ll] if you upload any photos from the pre-camp socializing, I will take care of creating an events.indieweb event page for the socializing in particular after the fact, and copy the photos there so they show up in today's newsletter!
[tantek]I realize it's already 8:30pm+ there in Brighton, but hopefully y'all took some photos and can at least spend the time to upload them. We can handle the various wiki/events gardening accordingly
[tantek]Also if you lack such photos, consider this an excuse to go out *again* and make some photos happen. Perhaps capjamesg or [Ana_R] can lead the charge 😄
[tantek]btw I'm starting to get convinced that we need an "indieweb-meetup" channel specifically for folks at/before an event to freely chat about event-context things, without having to worry that they are stepping on other threads of conversation
[tantek]a channel where those at or participating in an event feel free to have relatively moderate/high traffic chatter about event things without worrying about "spamming" everyone else in the community (e.g. here in meta or main #indieweb)
aaronpkthat is also only going to work if the event organizer shares the details and invites people to the channel before the event, which is a _whole thing_ and likely to run into mistakes or just be forgotten, not to mention the day-of exceptions that will always come up
capjamesgBut in any case we shouldn’t assume that people are okay with joining a public channel for logistics pertaining to a private, in person event.
[tantek]No keep it simple like other channels (including being logged so folks who are going but not online, e.g. on a plane, can check logs after the fact)
aaronpkyeah, which assumes multiple things now. for one, everyone would have to be using the same chat app, which is not currently the case with the existing solution
capjamesgPerhaps we should ask others what arrangement would be optimal before making any decisions. But, I think we should have a separate event channel in the interim.
aaronpkwhat i'm saying is that is something that needs to be run by _the organizer_ of the event, it is not something the community can set up and expect event organizers to use
aaronpkagain what i am saying is the only way it works is if the event organizer makes a plan for it, so we don't know if it's a best practice until someone does that and reporst back, so whoever runs the next event can decide if they want to try it. there isn't anything we can do for them here
[tantek]capjamesg also ideas != concerns. good to have pushback on ideas to filter down to more feasible / sustainable / values-consistent choices. not good to pushback on concerns
[tantek]and tomorrow you'll have [Jeremy_Keith] presumably in-person to ask any organizer related questions (even if he's officially co-organizing). don't be afraid to lean on his expertise 😄
aaronpki know that when i'm at an event i would rather check a channel that is only about the in-person event to not have to scroll back through a bunch of irrelevant off-topic chat
[tantek]at least one other community I'm in has a "meetup" channel and there is nothing "special" about it (i.e. it is default logged so people can scrollback even if they've not been "in" the channel for a while)
