Social media threads sometimes seem lazier than even email threads. Meta point on the composite stream / feed thread that [KevinMarks] brought up in #indieweb-dev
#
[tantek]
In both cases, why is it that people (first) think they have a unique observation that no one else could have possibly thought about (and more?) and possibly even written something down?
#
[tantek]
It's like Google Search etc is right there
#
jacky
perhaps there's no incentive to check before posting?
#
[tantek]
lol or maybe some of us obsess so much before posting we post a lot less 😅
#
jacky
obsess over posting over making sure what they're posting is worth posting? (if the former, I can def see that)
#
[tantek]
Or how much time (non zero) do you spend searching for something before posting about it

🚨🚨 NEW CHAT CHANNELS ARE LIVE 🚨🚨
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, some notes for how to handle the prior -chat channel are in the proposal discussion
#
[tantek]
e.g. I'm still of the opinion that you leave it alone so people's legacy bots that were not paying attention just keeping quietly doing their thing there
#
[tantek]
and are frankly not explicitly error alerted to go look for other channels instead

[Event Updated] bjoern.stierand.org updated "Oct 9, 2024 6:00pm Homebrew Website Club - Nuremberg/Germany" changed website https://events.indieweb.org/event/654/history/1840/diff
#

we need to redo the /discuss page to make the channel purposes easier to read, and also should include the text for the channel topics in IRC/Discord/Slack
#
aaronpk
this section is just very hard to parse https://indieweb.org/discuss#Chat_Channels_Purposes
#
aaronpk
i think for two reasons:
#
aaronpk
1) the main #indieweb channel description takes up almost a whole screen so it's not obvious there are more sections at first
#
aaronpk
2) the short name header followed by bold channel name with slack name in parens is very visually cluttered

I mean it's typical wiki accretion. People are much better at writing a lot, lengthy words etc., then they are at summarizing without losing key points. So it requires good writers to wiki garden

[New Event] artlung.com created "Sep 26, 2024 6:00pm Front End Study Hall #011" https://events.indieweb.org/cuRUYMWwYWGI
#
aaronpk
ooh should those notifications go into the new #indieweb-events channel?
#
[tantek]
Events.indieweb notifications would make sense in the events channel yeah!
#
aaronpk
ooh i bet there are a bunch of countdowns set in the old channel
#
aaronpk
i think the new #indieweb-cafe channel is analogous enough that I will move them over
#
[tantek]
yeah that works
