capjamesg[d]Maybe "What's new on your personal website? Share anything related to content / building on your site. Tech stuff to #indieweb-dev please!"
[tantek]We still have the problem of too many conversations becoming technology-centric in #indieweb and then some subset of folks being annoyed when asked to take their tech chats to #indieweb-dev. That's more of a problem (being unwelcoming to the quieter folks who are there to actually *do* (rather than build) things with their personal site) IMO.
[morganm]I understand the grizzled veteran approach to the topic delineation but to my eyes it feels quite strongly over emphasized. I think the bot / people should generally usher the convos elsewhere after say, 10 posts, not 1 or 2
[morganm]There is a part of me which does not quite understand how talking about the tech stuff is unwelcoming, unless its like lists of acronyms and not engaging with others but self centred, thats not quite a techy issue thats a general expectations of norms thing ?
[morganm]This is just a matter of perspective, but sometimes when I go to a foreign place I want to learn so I do as romans do, sometimes. The mods here have decades upon decades of cumulative experience, some making standards for the web, I remember looking at your title [aaronpk] one time and your products you influence affect like millions of people?
[morganm]Some person at some point said they found the tech chat confusing and everyone got reactive and wanted to make things more welcoming. Im just here as someone who wants to visit semi frequently and has been in the 1% rule my entire life on the web that I find the rate of ushering marginally, slightly, less welcoming. Maybe we balance out somehow. Anyways, just what I thought when asked what I thought 🙂
LoqiIt looks like we don't have a page for "1% rule" yet. Would you like to create it?_ (Or just say "1% rule is ____", a sentence describing the term)
aaronpkit was definitely more than one person, and over quite a period of time, plus often that feedback has been given in private because the people who feel like the space is unwelcoming also don't want to complain about it vocally
[morganm]I can believe that, I generally support and endorse the hard work of the mods, just sharing a little of my perspective, "vocally" and in the chat
[morganm]Seriously, this place is great, No real critical notes, just I open the app and people get ushered a lot. Lots of people just have enthusiasm for what they are doing and the ushering is something to balance
[morganm]Also, admittedly, sometimes I forget Indieweb is like a foundation with IRL events, my participation has been remote, and with a small group of friendly people here, so I forget there are lots of lurkers and people of variable participation
gRegorFirst section is mostly the same, removed "h-card" from the title since I don't think most people need to know that to achieve the result, added some text about red links and the things to replace in the HTML example
[tantek][morganm] a lot of the time people feel so unwelcome by the dev talk in #indieweb that they don't even feel welcome enough to complain about it. More often then not, they instead take to social media of some sort and complain there, and propagate a reputation of "it's only for people who run their own servers" (sometimes in their homes)
