what is a story
#
Loqi
A story is a singular (one per profile) time stream collection post, that consists of ephemeral photo and video posts that are shown in sequence one at a time and disappear from the collection some time after being added, usually 24 hours https://indieweb.org/story
#

is that really true that reels are short form content any more? I feel I have seen reels of many minutes of duration recently
#
aaronpk
depends on your definition of "short" i guess
#
aaronpk
still shorter than the average youtube video, TV show, and movies
#
[tantek]
aaronpk, I think the challenge is one of trying to make a meaningful distinction for "short" when there is such a spectrum, from a 4s vine videos, to maybe 10s of Strava video attachments to activities, to ~15s videos in IG stories, to minutes in IG reels or video posts (e.g. in a carousel), to weird vertical YouTube, to landscape YouTube videos, tv shows, movies etc.
#
[tantek]
where does it make sense to meaningfully draw the line at which of those is "short"?
#
[tantek]
pre-social media, movie theaters had the notion of "shorts" shown before featured presentations
#
aaronpk
oh yea those were also called shorts huh
#
[artlung]
the definitions ought to account for the ambiguity of usage of the term
#
[artlung]
I feel better with reel not just forwarding to instagram
#
[artlung]
but am open to clarification and noting the overlap/spectrum from reel to story
#
[tantek]
I agree with reducing the redirection of generic concepts to silo pages
#
[tantek]
there is perhaps an opportunity to distinguish short videso from /video posts similar to how we distinguish /note vs /article posts

what is fail2ban
#
Loqi
fail2ban is a utility that bans logins from IP addresses that show signs of malicious activity (like many failed login attempts) https://indieweb.org/fail2ban
#
gRegor
server might be struggling. Mediawiki hasn't refreshed from the editing screen for that on my end yet ^

#
gRegor
There's wiki links on /fail2ban that need to be updated, looks like they're only using Github and its wiki pages now instead of the Mediawiki that used to be on their domain
#
gRegor
If anyone wants to track those down and update

^ Think that's a reasonable state for the page for now, will leave it to anyone with experience to expand. Especially if you have any posts you're written on your site about it :)
