I think I'm asking you the reason you're asking me to take a look at them? If it's out of genuine curiosity, I think it's great a community can outline expectations.

If it's because you think I'm failing in being a good community member, I'd be glad to have a conversation with you about specific things. I feel like I came into this community excited and absolutely willing to learn, grow, and contribute.

I have had two instances where I have been frustrated by feeling shutdown and once I feel like you were pretty harsh with me about GDRP compliance before I fully understood what topics were ok and such.

If it's the cartoon character thing, my image is on my site and in my siggy line and I'd be glad to put it here. I just use that icon on my site as well as it represents my nickname.

Can you please just be direct with me?

Also, the only reason I wrote my thoughts on the community norms is because I've seen newbies (and myself included) come in and not fully understand the community norms and I wanted to help.

Yes to be direct genuine curiosity because you have been putting thought into this.
#
[tantek]
Nothing about it is meant to mean anything about you personally
#
[tantek]
You are absolutely not failing here IMO in any way 🙏

Apologies for the shutdown/harshness which was not intended. I suspect poor communication aspects of text and I take the feedback in good faith. Thank you

[tantek] Thank you. 🙂 I also truly apologize for not giving you the benefit of the doubt that I should have. I think text is always a little tricky and I'll be more mindful of that as well.

I do love the mission of this community and am looking forward to learning more and getting to know everyone.

As for that community guidelines page, I think it's great that they laid out expectations and that going in everyone has clear expectations of the community and the space they're entering. I think it would benefit long-term members and new ones alike. I don't think that it necessarily has to be as long as that one, but I think they did a great job. (I have knowledge of that community, so that's the lens I'm coming from.)

People (like myself) who don't come from a tech background might not fully understand indieweb principles when first entering chat. And some may have never participated in chats, discords, or zooms or anything like that, so things that seem obvious to most, may not be. (I have not routinely been involved with chats and I have never done a zoom which is one reason I haven't participated in online zoom events yet.)

I am sorry this is getting long-winded, I say all of this to say that outlining unspoken community norms as best as possible will only help bridge the gap between people who are assimilated to the community and those coming in.

The ones I outlined in the page i linked to earlier were the ones that stood out to me while participating and lurking.

I meant I have no knowledge of that community -sorry
