[Kupietz]
[aaronpk]. Fair enough. I was thinking the other day that it might be fun to have some sort of #firehose channel or outlet somewhere that aggregates all voluntarily-submitted posts, on any topic, requiring only that they be from personal, noncommercial websites. One could construct something like this themselves with a feed reader or follow mechanism of some sort, but that doesn't allow them to discover new sites they might not
#
[Kupietz]
be aware of.
#
[artlung]
It was working until a month ago. Not pleased that I don't really understand why my code stopped working.
#
[artlung]
Doubly displeased that there's no meaningful error returned
#
[Kupietz]
I feel that. of Face
#
[Kupietz]
ERP. Ignore "of face". Typo
#
aaronpk
yeah it should give you a better error, or actually in that case it should have just ignored that junk property
#
[artlung]
If the endpoint is in php id be happy to take a look. Create a git issue and ill see if I can replicate and trap it
#
[artlung]
Mention me in it
#
aaronpk
i think it's already fixed in the latest version of xray, so it's a matter of updating indienews to use the latest xray release
#
[artlung]
It's in meetable ?
#
aaronpk
oops meetable not indienews
#
[tantek]
[Kupietz] sounds like what you're looking for is something more like a "planet"
#
[tantek]
what is a planet
#
Loqi
A planet, in the context of the indieweb, and blogs/feeds for even longer, is a site that aggregates feeds/updates from a variety of sources, typically focused on a particular topic or community https://indieweb.org/planet
#
gRegor
It is curious that the rsvp posts were showing up before March
#
aaronpk
that was kind of the idea behind stream.indieweb.org actually, that it was more of a planet than specifically indieweb-relevant things
#
[tantek]
there's kind of a meta "good behavior" guideline here of don't suck up all the oxygen and drown out other people's voices. when we talk about people spamming #indieweb-stream it's usually because in addition to hashtagging everything #indieweb they are also rapid-posting and overwhelming the #indieweb-stream with themselves
#
aaronpk
but some of the things that have been getting hashtagged #indieweb are too noisy even for a planet site
#
aaronpk
also arguably mastodon posts shouldn't be there in the first place, since most are not on personal websites
#
aaronpk
but it was kind of a slow side effect of twitter searches going to the chat channel then adding mastodon then removing twitter then stream.indieweb.org taking over from the direct twitter->IRC integration that used to exist
#
[tantek]
I think we had the twitter and now masto feed of tagged posts as kind of an "early warning" or "alert" system in case folks were having trouble with indieweb things, setup, software, services, specs, so folks in the community could volunteer and help people out who may be primarily on masto and not (yet) able to fully use their own sites primarily
#
gRegor
It's also just interesting to see what indieweb things people are talking about outside of our chat
#
aaronpk
yeah that
#
[tantek]
I feel there's at least a few folks here now that showed up because someone else in the community saw their post in #indieweb-stream and helped out

[tantek]
[Kupietz] I believe #indieweb-stream is a mix of folks who list themselves in /chat-names and #indieweb (and a few other) hashtagged posts across Mastodon

gRegor++ thanks for the feedback on https://github.com/indieweb/events.indieweb.org/issues/4 - I made the changes you suggested and also updated the gist where I share the markup I use on my rsvps.
