wturrell journalists are fond of categorising annoying things unnecessarily. seems to me the benefits of the HWC format are: participation is entirely optional (Guardian piece is mostly complaining about people you're forced to work or socialise with), unless you're a "facilitator" (or as I'd call them, host) you don't have to speak or respond yourself, and you can find out the important stuff from the etherpad, and attendance
