@martijnvdven We are in XML source land in that argumentation. Output could be HTML+microformats of course.

@_mql The microformats data object can be XML. That’s where you could take inspiration from the format, I wasn’t su… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/897090444286468096

OTOH one of the articles that links to is seriously flawed and makes up a bunch of theoretical stuff mixed in with actual problems - the one about names: http://www.kalzumeus.com/2010/06/17/falsehoods-programmers-believe-about-names/
#
tantek
basically the article is very poor because all it does is list assumptions and claims they are false without providing any evidence
#
tantek
or real world examples (in contrast to the addresses article)
#
tantek
just a bunch of "sounds like that could be a bad assumption" type stuff which is claimed as true
#
tantek
it's just as bad to assert certainty about the falsehood of assumptions as it is to assert certainty about the assumptions in the first place!
#
aaronpk
according to who?
#
tantek
they are logically equivalent. asserting A or asserting !A

tantek
the time one is better as there are implicit references that can be checked
#
tantek
aaronpk, worse still, several of "this assumption about names is false" can be refuted with counter-examples that demonstrate legal standards that require them, e.g. passports, that have nothing to do with "Programmers"
#
tantek
weakens their case a lot
#
tantek
The time posts are also annoying in that they omit examples
#
tantek
the "Switzerland has no capital" is interesting!
#
tantek
"None (de jure) Bern (de facto)"

speaking of regional differences, TIL that birthdays work totally differently in Korea
#
aaronpk
when you are born you are "1". then on the next Jan 1, you turn "2"
#
tantek
aaronpk: that actually makes sense as when you are born you are living your first year
#
aaronpk
since my birthday is right at the end of the year, my korean age is almost always 2 years more than my birthday age
#
tantek
wait what I just read the part about next Jan 1
#
tantek
ok that makes no sense
#
tantek
sounds like a conflation of birth*day* and birth*year*
#
KartikPrabhu
cultural norms rarely "make sense"
#
tantek
they often evolve to make more sense

aaronpk
if you think about it, we say someone is X years old, so tying it to calendar year isn't a huge stretch
#
tantek
it's like a delta variant of saying they were born in year x
#
tantek
this is also better than the names one, with the convenient "Why is this false?" links http://www.atlefren.net/post/2014/09/falsehoods-programmers-believe-about-maps/

wonders if aaronpk has read ^^^]
#

oh boy that looks like fun
#
aaronpk
the time one is good too. what a rabbit hole
#
tantek
seriously.
