Loqi stopped showing RTs a while ago but these are all just bots
#
aaronpk
also that article seems to have stemmed entirely from this tweet https://twitter.com/JohnMu/status/989460249143857152
#
Loqi
[@JohnMu] @aroth26 @dannysullivan Not that I'm aware of.
#
Zegnat
Yep. There is no recommendation from Google on using rel="me" at all, and I do not think it was ever used for their authorship, which I seem to recall correctly used rel="author".
#
Zegnat
So I have no idea where that blog post came from.
#
aaronpk
someone from google actually confirmed something about SEO

aaronpk
which is big news in SEO land

let's see if that helps

[Martijn van der Ven] Earlier today, Barry Schwartz published a piece over on Search Engine Roundtable called Google Does Not Use rel=me Microformats. The article got shared around Twitter a lot, and those tweets surfaced on the microformats IRC channel. In it he mentions...
#
Zegnat
Oh, did I mess up my p-title? Sorry Loqi~
#
Zegnat
Hmm, no, Loqi just isn’t using my title..?
[kevinmarks] joined the channel
#
Zegnat
Of course. How did I mix that up?
#
Zegnat
I would love it if you have a moment to read what I wrote there, [kevinmarks], before I tweet it out into the world
#
[kevinmarks]
looks good
#
[kevinmarks]
google did once use rel=Me and other xfn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LabCylbapuM
#
[kevinmarks]
there's an IO talk too where Brad and I talk about it, though the code and apiis long gone
#
Zegnat
Maybe reply with that then ;) My point was more that it wasn’t used for the now-defunct authorship algo Google was using
#
[kevinmarks]
I vaguely remember them using rel=author and rel=me chaining at one point but not sure if that made it into search
#
aaronpk
I don't think it's worth arguiing with the SEO people
#
aaronpk
they only care about whether google parses stuff for search results
#
[kevinmarks]
so they did use the rel="me" back from the g+ for it in the past
#
Zegnat
Oh well, tweeted it out now. Both on my own timeline, and as reply to @rustybrick. We’ll see if anything happens.
#
Zegnat
I am not so much going to argue SEO, aaronpk. More that the article missed the mark by bringing in authentication.
#
Zegnat
And at the same time, maybe it educates someone about the uses of rel="me" :)
