# Back in the day I was hoping for the semantic web; was a huge fan of Zeldman; tried to implement Microformats where ever I could.
I think the movement that steamrolled all that was why I burned out on the web front-end thing.

# ↩️ Consider RDFa and Microformats. But even a semantically well-structured HTML document is a huge boon if you spider the web. Consider Web Archiving efforts. Without structure, it's extremely hard to persist a proper archival copy and make the information findable/searchable. ( twitter.com/_/status/1089958241050808320)
# ↩️ That's what Microformats was about and I have yet to see any outstanding use case that is still live. Lots of what we put in back then is just dead code now. ( twitter.com/_/status/1089961559223427073)

# ↩️ microformats Was? I would go with microformats is. Every #IndieWeb site uses microformats and I would venture more consumers exists in the wild for semantic HTML than any kind of hidden Metadata not meant for humans.
