# ↩️ Oh, I'd say "was" insofar as microformats weren't readily extensible and so are now in their nadir (to the point Chris made). However, I wouldn't use "microformats" as a proxy for "semantic layer of HTML". That's alive and well https://twitter.com/aaranged/status/1086028219965366272 ( twitter.com/_/status/1090691157502222336)
# ↩️ Yes my apologies. I was using semantic as the word in a POSH sense and not the loaded term for the work around standards.
I do wonder if there are probably more actual use cases and consumers of microformats for personal sites. (https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/s/B4Gqu) ( twitter.com/_/status/1090698789118197767)
# ↩️ though I am a hobbyist and not a developer, and as an old English teacher using text structure for semantics just seemed logical. I looked at JSON-LD and microformats and there was only one I could quickly learn and understand (https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/s/14y2wE) ( twitter.com/_/status/1090699172964126720)

# ↩️ plus over 1.4 million webmentions sent being powered by microformats as well, and if you count all of the Mastodon users (since every instance includes mf2) the number of use cases seems to be at a high point and growing and not a low point. # ↩️ Microformats were readily extensible, as they have been extended. Microformats 2 has a separation between parsing and vocabulary, which was a problem with microformats 1.
You can even express schema in microformats http://www.kevinmarks.com/microformatschema.html ( twitter.com/_/status/1090703007862407169)
# ↩️ I'm not sure why common crawl is using an obsolete microformats parser thta doesn't support microformats 2 when there are plenty available in multiple languages http://microformats.org/wiki/parsers ( twitter.com/_/status/1090704218460168194)

# ↩️ I am still stoked by a commitment to owning data and portability. Still, give @medium mad points on that front. In fact when I downloaded all my posts they even had proper microformats so importing to my site was super easy. Still I had hopes Medium… https://quickthoughts.jgregorymcverry.com/2019/01/30/i-am-still-stoked-by-a-commitment ( twitter.com/_/status/1090756688741888001)
# ↩️ forgot @medium. I downloaded all of my content and microformats v2 are on point. a ton of use cases no nadir...though I don't see the h-entry on view source just a bunch of gobbily gook no human could easily understand.
