#aaronpkHuh that one wasn't on the list at all, I don't remember seeing any config for it on the old server

#ZegnatHmm. Another one of those magic redirects that seemingly did not have any config? Looks like /w/ just redirects to /wiki/ and ufs.cc just redirects to microformats.org

#[tantek][pfefferle]++ thanks for noticing! yes it was done with htaccess rules ages ago
#Loqi[pfefferle] has 1 karma in this channel over the last year (9 in all channels)
#[tantek]aaronpk I have to admit I probably added those rules without comments because they seemed "simple". Are there guidelines for htaccess comments?
#aaronpki was thinking a sentence explaining what it does, and also providing an example URL to confirm that it works
#aaronpkfor example, the htaccess rule is `RedirectPermanent /whttp://microformats.org/wiki` but it's not clear from looking at that unless you are familiar with htaccess rules that it will actually redirect all paths under `/w` to the corresponding `/wiki` URL, e.g. `/w/vcp` actually redirects to `/wiki/vcp`
#aaronpkso when I translated it to nginx, I translated it as just redirect exactly `/w` to `/wiki`
#aaronpka comment like "supports short URLs like ufs.cc/w/vcp" would have made that much clearer as to what it was actually for
#aaronpkthere's also no references to ufs.cc in there at all, so there was no way to know that domain exists or that it should have been tested in the migration

#[tantek]many of the popular wiki pages had explicit ufs.cc shortlinks near the top
#[tantek]and yes, I agree that htaccess rules are fairly unobvious / subtle in how they work. it was frustrating to learn
