I discussed a problem with [indieweb653] about feeds… is there a discussion how to link to different feeds?
#
[pfefferle]
for example a gallery/note/aside/… feed?

GWG
[pfefferle]: Good question
#
GWG
I wrote a post contemplating that with rel-feed
#
[pfefferle]
yes, but this also only describes what it is in general, but not the type of the posts in this feed
#
[pfefferle]
hey GWG 🙂
#
GWG
[pfefferle]: I think the thinking is moving away from explicit types.
#
GWG
Also, nice to see you
#
[pfefferle]
in my opinion that would be sad, because especially for sites that highly make use of POSSE it is important for users to choose between feeds, to not have the complete noise
#
[pfefferle]
I have a lot of noise in my feed-reader lately
#
GWG
[pfefferle]: I didn't say I agreed with the thinking
#
GWG
I'd like some sort of hinting before retrieval
#
GWG
Rather than pulling and analyzing the whole feed
#
[pfefferle]
but even then it would be nice for different clients to prefer feeds based on the type
#
sknebel
so you are looking for something more specific than a text-label on the <link> tag?
#
aaronpk
there's no guarantee a particular feed will be limited to a type anyway
#
GWG
That's why I said hinting
#
[pfefferle]
not in general but if so
#
aaronpk
i think there's already some precedent for this in readers where you can just label your feeds whatever you want and the reader will show the label
#
aaronpk
there's also plenty of use cases for labeling things specifically not by type
#
[pfefferle]
[indieweb653] tries to map different feeds to local post-types, thats why I asked
#
[pfefferle]
he currently shows a list of feeds and lets the user choose which type it is

[KevinMarks]
you use the feed title to distinguish normally

[pfefferle] I agree with the use case of users choosing what to POSSE where, however rarely is that something so simplistic as legacy post types. often times it's things like hashtags
#
[tantek]
even then there are exceptions
#
[tantek]
fundamentally this needs to be part of the "create/publish" UI, not something to automatically do with a coarse setup that can be hard to predict for the user. take a look at [Jeremy_Keith]’s solution https://indieweb.org/create#per_silo_POSSE_toggles
