[tantek]: I need help finding marked up examples. I see no markup of any sort. Nothing to indicate one is a different version of the other. I know there is lang="__" which is a different language version of this.

Has no one on the HTML side contemplated different calendar version of a time?

I'm curious how people would go about marking up content in a different language without having to make a new page or something
#

like I wanna show my name in japanese (which would be ジャッキー アルシン ) but the only thing I can think of is making my name into a e-name and setting `lang`

[jacky] language is a pain to do well imo. Mostly because parsers make wrongful assumptions (i.e. every site, page or item is only in 1 language at a time. Google ignores language mark-up, trusting their own language probability calculation more, but assumes 1 language per page). I have content in 3 languages (and quotes in several others): I add lang= to non-English items and html spans inside items on the front page, with the site

lang set to English. I use categories for my other languages, so I can set the site language for them on category overview pages and single post pages (as Google does take into account declared site language, but exceptions apply). I added translation links to non-English postings in my RSS feeds (autotranslate runs into Google’s wrong assumptions again, so I set explicit source and target language links) See

learned something new about the `lang` attribute too
#
jacky
I _could_ get this into the Rust parser tbh
#

I was reading that one yesterday actually

I have to look if I have a lang property scoped to the page
#
jacky
I don't think I do
#
jacky
but I do need to read more about setting one and how that could affect a browser (no idea if that plays weird in non-English/non-Latin-based language viewers)
#
jacky
I don't think I'd agree with the "html-id" and "html-lang" thing
#
jacky
wow yeah this is dope

jacky: That's good, right?

jacky, I'm personally interested in the marking-up / communication of dietary-preference as well, however I keep coming back to a very different set of use-cases.

e.g. cooking for friends, vs organizing a dinner out (or even getting takeout), vs say an airline's meal prefs
