↩️ I really miss the time (I think around 2005) when everything was focused on a decentralized web. Jabber, microformats in html, rss. I really want t back, but capitalism naturally pushes away from it

↩️ I starting learning html in early 2000’s, I definitely used those resources. I got to help out the microformats people a bit by distilling their markup into a cheat sheet later on, but otherwise I was a consumer of information.

tw2113, that's a bit of a strawman, even if you meant it humorously. the post is blaming capitalism as one force pushing against decentralization, standards, open formats & APIs, and they’re not wrong. capitalism, in particular VC (what the C stands for), does have a tendency to fund (incentivize) things that "capture value" which is often a euphemism for or implies centralization, proprietary formats, and bizdev APIs
