cwebber2
elf-pavlik: btw, out of curiosity
#
cwebber2
which triple store are you using in your project?
#
elf-pavlik
http://levelgraph.io it also has JSON-LD and N3 extensions
#
elf-pavlik
no SPARQL currently but it runs in web browser as well so one can use it offline!
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: ah neat
#
cwebber2
the only libraries I've worked with are redland and rdflib
#
cwebber2
confusingly, redland's python library is librdf, and we used both librdf and rdflib at CC and I could never remember which was which :)
#
elf-pavlik
cwebber2, i forgot to ask you yesterday if you and jessica_lily would like to compile overview of Flickr API? https://www.w3.org/wiki/Socialwg/Social_API/Patterns#Proprietary_APIs
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: hm, probably :) I will have to move around some of my schedule to do that but I think it makes sense as something we should do
#
cwebber2
maybe I can work on it while we're driving to thanksgiving ;)
#
elf-pavlik
no rush on that, just tought that you have probably most expertise in this domain :)
#
cwebber2
I have never used the flickr api, but we do have experience with our own handling of media api stuff, so we probably have a good basis for analysis
#
elf-pavlik
do you know what happened to http://theopenphotoproject.org/ ?
tantek joined the channel
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: I had a lot of conversations with the main dev early on
#
tantek
good morning #social!
#
elf-pavlik
ahoy tantek o/ good evening :)
#
tantek
checks logs
#
cwebber2
I tried encouraging him to work on federation, and etc... the plan was, MediaGoblin would figure out federation, then openphoto would follow suit ;)
#
tantek
cwebber2: I tried to encourage the OpenPhoto folks to also focus on both selfdogfooding, and supporting open standards
#
cwebber2
the project had a different focus than MediaGoblin in some ways... the author told me once he was more interested in archiving than decentralizing
#
elf-pavlik
do you know if they still actively work on it?
#
tantek
it was quite indieweb in nature - that is, host your own photos, but never really connected with anyone else in the community
#
tantek
so perhaps it was extremely indie
#
cwebber2
tantek: yeah... I think they got caught up in the struggle to figure out how to keep things funded, and lost focus on the community that was building around it
#
tantek
cwebber2: that is very sad to hear
#
cwebber2
around the time of the "trovebox" move is when I think this became more apparent
#
elf-pavlik
need to prioritise work on crowdenabling (moneyless crowdfunding)
#
cwebber2
the term openphoto turned out to have been trademarked by a stock photo site
#
cwebber2
(funnily enough! when I first was talking about starting MediaGoblin, my friend rejon tried to convince me to call it OpenPhoto, before OpenPhoto was announced)
#
elf-pavlik
do you know if they have some archives where they discuss design of their API /
#
cwebber2
but around the time that they switched to trovebox I think they also started to focus on how to make money via targeting the enterprise
#
elf-pavlik
oh, i even used it at some point https://elf-pavlik.trovebox.com/
#
cwebber2
and they had a lot of code they hadn't pushed publicly for a while, not sure if they have now
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: I don't know much about their API or those decisions
#
cwebber2
Hubert Figuiere was really excited about the project
#
cwebber2
he might know more
#
tantek
oh dear, the whole "targeting the enterprise" pit of despair
#
elf-pavlik
cwebber2, how do you manage to stay focused on GMG? i remember you run some crowdfunding campaign?
#
cwebber2
https://github.com/photo/frontend still looks actively developed though
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: we ran two campaigns :)
#
cwebber2
the first campaign paid for me for a year
#
cwebber2
the second campaign we are paying jessica from
#
cwebber2
to focus on federation
#
cwebber2
jessica_lily that is
#
cwebber2
right now I am looking at doing some contracting to make up for my financial needs
#
cwebber2
we are going to launch a "premium hosting" thing, but no idea how big that will be, and I want to make sure I don't screw it up. It could be enough to fund things ongoing, or just enough to add additional responsibilities and little else ;)
#
elf-pavlik
i plan to also run a campaing to raise inkind support to cover my needs, since i don't use finances :)
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: I listened to an interview about your moneyless stuff, which is very cool :)
#
elf-pavlik
tantek, do you follow development of https://indiehosters.net/ ?
#
cwebber2
though I don't think that will be feasible for me anytime soon, I'm a bit too tied down :)
#
tantek
elf-pavlik: somewhat - they pop into #indiewebcamp sometimes :)
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: yes I am emailing with the lead of it
#
cwebber2
in fact, thanks for reminding me :)
#
cwebber2
I need to reply again
#
elf-pavlik
yeah, i know michiel for quite some time via http://unhosted.org
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: anyway, the short answer of it is that I'm dedicated to fulfilling our promises with mediagoblin, but focus will be maintained long term I'm not sure
#
cwebber2
elf-pavlik: tantek: there's a good possibility that when mediagoblin provides proof of implementation of the w3c socialwg standards that the trovebox people will be interested in fulfilling also
#
cwebber2
I think the bigger problem will be whether they can prioritize time for it though
#
tantek
cwebber2: they don't even seem to be able to maintain working code currently so I have no expectations
#
cwebber2
many of the developers selfdogfood mediagoblin, though I need to selfdogfood it more than present :)
#
cwebber2
the main problem is I have little to upload since I have little time to do artowrk anymore ;p
#
cwebber2
irony of working on my media hosting project is that I don't have enough time to make media :)
#
tantek
oh dear
#
elf-pavlik
tantek, can MediaWiki include some content on multiple pages without duplicating it? i really like how http://wagn.org/wagneering does it
#
tantek
elf-pavlik: there are templates for that
#
tantek
mediawiki templates - widely used in Wikipedia for example
#
tantek
oops wrong channel lol
#
elf-pavlik
tantek, can we use them to stop copy and paste for example this section: https://www.w3.org/wiki/Socialwg/2014-11-25#Preamble ?
#
tantek
yes! go ahead and create a /wiki/Template:telcon-preamble
#
elf-pavlik
how i include it then?
#
tantek
{{telcon-preamble}}
#
tantek
see for example {{stub}} :)
#
elf-pavlik
cool! :)
#
elf-pavlik
but no way to incude section from one page in another page?

cwebber2 has 8 karma
#
elf-pavlik
aaronpk, can we get records from Loqi of who ++ who and when?
#
elf-pavlik
going get some fresh air
#
tantek
!tell elf-pavlik the key to using templates is only using them for things which aren't expected to diverge. Otherwise they get in the way of easy editability. Be conservative in their use.
#
Loqi
Ok, I'll tell them that when I see them next

!tell elf-pavlik you could always just use the IRC logs, they're easy to parse
