wseltzer_valencia, i wonder if you could in any way help us to move forward with those 3 actions :)
#
wseltzer_valencia
elf-pavlik, I am not harry ...
#
wseltzer_valencia
I don't have context on the requests
#
elf-pavlik

elf-pavlik: what exactly do you want to use microformats for?
#
elf-pavlik
we could reuse vocab terms, or at lest map them to vocab we chose to use
#
elf-pavlik
i would also look at using them together with RDFa
#
elf-pavlik
so mostly vocab and not so much serialization https://www.w3.org/wiki/Socialwg/Social_syntax
#
elf-pavlik
melvster, ^
#
melvster
elf-pavlik: is microformats related to w3c work?
#
melvster
i can understand making a vocab
#
melvster
but im not seeing what this will be used for in the context of sw wg
#
melvster
would like to understand better
#
melvster
or is it an indie web thing?
#
melvster
are there other social contexts?
#
melvster
i see your proposal to create a namespace or put it in w3id.org ... sure why not, but what im missing is the motivation
the_frey joined the channel
#
melvster
what's driving this, is it adoption, is it use cases, is it being championed ... how does it tie in to w3c standards is what im trying to understand
#
melvster
what's it going to be used for ...
#
elf-pavlik
melvster, have you seen examples in http://www.w3.org/TR/activitystreams-core/
#
melvster
briefly but there's a lot there
#
melvster
anything in particular to note?
#
elf-pavlik
Microformats examples
#
elf-pavlik
and participation of IndieWeb where most people *curently* use microformat vocab and microformats html serialization
#
melvster
elf-pavlik: anything else other than indieweb?
#
elf-pavlik
not really
#
elf-pavlik
well also like relations :)
#
elf-pavlik
s/like/link/
#
melvster
elf-pavlik: do you know how much deployment indieweb has?
#
elf-pavlik
more than deployment i see a vibrant community :)
#
melvster
that's great
#
melvster
but this is a wg
#
melvster
just trying to understand what would be the motivation for even considering microformats in a standards context, when the w3c has already innovated in this area and there are already existing RECs
#
melvster
if we just pick technologies without understanding some motivation behind it we'll end up with the same problems that were left after the social web XG and OStatus
#
melvster
from the page you sent, it seems everything can be done with json ld, microdata, rdfa and turtle, with microformats just being a weaker form of syntactic sugar, is that about right?
#
elf-pavlik
myself I would +1 JSON-LD, RDFa and Turtle, if someone needs HTML based serialization RDFa gives most straight forward option here
#
melvster
elf-pavlik: id suggest just putting it on w3id.org/mf then using owl : sameAs relations to link to the other terms ... it can always be shifted to a more stable URI one day ... but I still dont fully see the motivation other than (with no disrespect) a relatively small group of users, and syntactic sugar ...
#
elf-pavlik
for microformats i would see need to make decent migration tools
#
elf-pavlik
i guess you meant owl:equivalentProperty and owl:equivalentClass ?

sure, whatever is appropriate, if anything ... may not be needed at all

elf-pavlik: cool ... whoever is proposing microformats in a w3c context, maybe it might be nice to have a few sentences covering why, i agree with you re json ld, rdfa, turtle etc.
#
elf-pavlik
melvster, i know but sice other people put microformats on the table i try my best to see how it can fit within the environemnt
#
melvster
elf-pavlik: got it, I think we're on the same page :)

!tell tantek I would like to discuss collections - how do you see collection maintaining list of its members vs. members maintaining list of collections they stay included in
