melody cynically, i think twitter is looking at this specifically because they see the writing on the wall re: regulations and they see centralization as a sudden liability, since they will be responsible for the content people post, and they want to become a cog in a machine so that they can claim they have no control over the content and absolve themselves of the responsibility of moderating it
