[miklb]notes should have a permalink, but most do not have a title. That’s not to say for the DOM you couldn’t use an H1. I use the post ID generated for the note & date for the permalink. When I did static site I used a generated hash for an id and permalink. Just depends on how your site is currently configured.
LoqiA note is a post that is typically short unstructured* plain text, written & posted quickly, that has its own permalink page https://indieweb.org/note
[miklb]not really. I’ve been less than productive the last couple of weeks. I really think I want to work on the Jekyll theme and then WP. I’m a little burned out on WordPress at the moment.
[asuh]I’m probably being dogmatic about my concern for lack of <h1> element on the page, thinking in terms of business site and SEO. I don’t use <h1> for Site Name (outside of index page) , instead using it for page title on every page or post. The lack of heading or title makes me wonder about how it helps or hurts a site, or using date for <h1> like Adactio with multiple “notes” with same title, I don’t want search engines thinking it
[miklb]I don’t think there’s anything precluding you from putting your note in an H1 and styling the display (font-size for instance) to suit your theme if you are concerned with that. That said, I don’t believe it’s an issue that has come up. I would suggest asking around in the main channel (#indieweb) how others have approached it. I’ve not heard of anyone negatively being impacted by the lack of an H1 on notes however.
[asuh]miklb I didn’t mean displaying note as <h1>, I meant include <h1> in addition to the note, like a regular post. Otherwise, no top heading for page? I don’t think <=280 character Tweet makes sense as top heading, but I worry that no heading or identical heading with date is not good either. Just a theory, curious if others disagree
