@gwg just tested. Selected a note but added a photo. That made it a photo post kind. Checked in Wordpress and the correct post kind is now publishing. Can't hand;e portrait photos but I haven't checked to see if somebody already created an issue

Portrait photos?

Looking at what [chrisaldrich] does all I need to to do is not publish the "post" page and then just make a new page and create links to different feeds, that seems eaier than trying to figure out how just to publish post kind "article"

Feed is the RSS
#
[jgmac1106]
Thx [miklb] debating whether to just surface articles or make a menu of feeds. Kinda still leaning on using Known sites for my status update like posts but should give the whole WP thing the college try
#
[miklb]
sure, just pointing out that the article feed is already there
#
[miklb]
’seems easier than trying to figure out how just to publish post kind “article”"
#
GWG
[jgmac1106]: What do you want exactly? Do you want a menu of links to different parts of your website, or do you want to exclude certain things?
#
[jgmac1106]
@gwg just playing now. In essence what I want is to discover what I want. Originally I was playing with the idea of not changing anything and just creating a filter so only post kind article publishes on the post page. I was never successful I went lookin at Chris's source code and its nothing fancy at all. List items, icons, and a bunch of rss feeds. Very doable. Probably going to throw up a page
#
[miklb]
I’d be happy to help whip up a WP Query if you are talking about what to display on home apge
#
GWG
[miklb]: He has it on a /posts page
#
[jgmac1106]
[miklb] that wasn't my issue I am trying to ONLY have articles post to that page. I read up queries. Those looked easy to write. Will try it myself before asking for a hand [miklb] (usually doesn't take long). Today I am making a survey for a client . They never understand what it truly takes. The content validity, the factor analysis, etc. They just say, "make items" and skip all the steps. Might as well make a website that generates

and conclusions for them. May get back to indieweb playing tonight

just spent too much time fiddling with svn and bash

Trying to write a better deployment script than the stock one I sort of borrowed from pfefferle.

#
GWG
[pfefferle] Can you look at that deployment script I started? I am woefully rusty on bash and svn? I tried to use existing scripts to create what was needed.
#
GWG
snarfed's script relies on a working directory I don't have.
#
GWG
Not sure how your svn and bash are though
#
GWG
Also, will remove the internationalized service names. You reviewed that back in February and didn't comment then or I would have waited for another review
#
GWG
[pfefferle] Also, do you have a moment to talk GPDR, curious what you were thinking.
#
[pfefferle]
GWG where can I find the script?
#
GWG
I tried it out in one of my other plugins
#
[pfefferle]
regarding the translations: no problem... I got some feedback from a german core translator the other day, to simplify the plugin a bit
#
[pfefferle]
does it work?
#
GWG
pfefferle, it does.
#
[pfefferle]
nice! will try it myself!
#
GWG
It has some nice features I borrowed, like version checking between readme and main file
#
GWG
If you have any feedback, tell me. I want to keep iterating
#
GWG
Also supports assets, I think
#
[pfefferle]
perhaps we can start an indieweb-wordpress-plugin-boilerplate repo

[miklb]
+1 to that idea
#
GWG
I would contribute. I took a lot of my design from you
#
GWG
It is usually, pfefferle did x... sounds good to me.
#
GWG
I wouldn't mind a nice base.
#
GWG
Especially considering I am thinking of starting a new POSSE plugin
#
[pfefferle]
what about GDPR?
#
GWG
What are you thinking you want to do in Semantic Linkbacks? Privacy policy is what I think makes sense
#
[pfefferle]
we should add filters, so that we import only stuff that is used by an other plugin
#
[pfefferle]
like for example geo data
#
Loqi
I agree
#
[pfefferle]
so that you can enable it with simple locations
#
[pfefferle]
thanks Loqi
#
Loqi
you're welcome
#
[pfefferle]
and yes, we should suppot the data-privacy features, that WordPress implements
#
[pfefferle]
perhaps we should/must write some exporters or features to delete comments
#
GWG
I need to figure out privacy for Simple Location as well.
#
GWG
Delete I think, but we support deleting webmentions, don't we?
#
[pfefferle]
good point
#
[pfefferle]
I fear that brid.gy is no longer possible for EU citizens after GDPR starts
#
GWG
I deal with GPDR questions at work a bit, as I work for an affected company, but I am taking it from an outside perspective.
#
GWG
In my opinion, stating usage and giving more control should address the issue
#
GWG
So, we need to state what we store and how to send a webmention to purge it.
#
GWG
I think, regardless, that is the best first steps
#
GWG
Privacy policy + documentation
#
GWG
Did anyone ask snarfed about how to purge the data on his end?
#
GWG
He covers it, good
#
[pfefferle]
I think the data is not the main problem... brid.gy is copying data from Social networks without telling the users.
#
[pfefferle]
That is crucial
#
GWG
The sending users?

ping doug belshaw. He is currently doing work for moodle on creating a social network and has had to do extensive GDPR training with a very similar lens
#
[snarfed]
honestly we're probably overthinking all this. in practice i expect none of us will actually get any requests or complaints, and if eventually one of us does, we can figure it out then

#
[miklb]
that’s going to be my approach
#
[snarfed]
let it be a tax on just bigger commercial players, not us
#
GWG
[snarfed]: My plan with [pfefferle]'s concern was to add the ability for the site owner to more easily purge, add documentation about how to send a delete webmention, and some settings about the level of detail saved.
#
GWG
And maybe a privacy page
#
[snarfed]
sounds good, but also sounds worth punting on indefinitely, until someone asks for it
#
[snarfed]
up to you though!
#
GWG
[snarfed]: pfefferle asked. It isn't as much as it sounds.
#
GWG
Writing some instructions and adding some settings.
