# [chrisaldrich] Howdy GWG!
# [chrisaldrich] This got pinged in the other chat rooms, but thought I'd drop it here as well: https://boffosocko.com/2018/07/24/reply-to-morten-rand-hendriksen-about-webmention-and-wordpress-core/
# [chrisaldrich] Hopefully he'll show up and we can all roll up our sleeves....
# [jgmac1106] GWG++
# [chrisaldrich] There was also this the other day too in case you missed it GWG: https://twitter.com/rboren/status/1019275363522895874
# @rboren @photomatt I recall the jokes made about crusty blogrolls when we deprecated the links manager. Now, folks are exhuming it for use as their canonical OPML source to feed OPML subscriptions. https://boffosocko.com/2017/11/10/a-following-page/ (twitter.com/_/status/1019275363522895874)
# [jgmac1106] I reached out to both @rboren is a really cool guy. Had good conversations with him. sent @openmatt a
# [jgmac1106] Message about maybe an IndieWebDC since I was in the city at the time
# [jgmac1106] M? Gddd
# [jgmac1106] Sorry
# [jgmac1106] @marcozDe I need to join the micro.blog community. I syndicate there but with Twitter API announcements....
# [jgmac1106] Awesome, just be aware like all thinga indieweb chat it's all public domain but I allow you to member check recording before release
# [jgmac1106] I should just stop calling it research and rebrand it a podcast and then research my podcast
# [jgmac1106] Who is Loqi?
# Loqi Loqi is a friendly and useful bot present in the IndieWeb discussion channels https://indieweb.org/User:Loqi.me
# [jgmac1106] That brings in feeds from across the web.. And other feeds, but Loqi gets all the street cred
# [jgmac1106] A true OG
# [jgmac1106] I am going to end up recording soup to nuts tutorials for all the themes for their slight variations.
# [jgmac1106] I need to double check but Independent Publisher from directory seems different in some places, but as always documenting.
# [jgmac1106] If you see anything I mistake about a theme let me know. Happy to record. Trying to keep everything under three minutes
# [jgmac1106] Retake easy
# [jgmac1106] @marcoZDe I use Bridgy when trying to keep the Twitter Thread alive.
# [jgmac1106] I was using SNAP but got my hand slapped for @ mentioning too many athletes during major US Sporting Event
# [jgmac1106] So been using Bridgy for everything.
# [jgmac1106] So to keep Twitter thread alive, you reply to each tweet as a new note, and that threads with Twitter as do webmentions
[dougbeal] joined the channel
# [dougbeal] Does WP just write a new theme each year? Or was twentysixteen kept on so they renamed it to twentyseveteen
# [jgmac1106] I mean reply, my bad. Start a new thread with note
# [jgmac1106] Each theme and each post kind syndicates slightly differently. Takes some mucking about
# [jgmac1106] But I have canoes full of tons of folks across dozens of tweets I capture with webmentions
# [jgmac1106] And it's cool because the archive view of previous and next makes it a book captured on my domain... Branches in threads break but my post linear
# [jgmac1106] My big worry with making only video tutorials
# [jgmac1106] Working on a text based version at same time
# [chrisaldrich] Sorry GWG, I was off working on dinner...
# [chrisaldrich] Otherwise it's been outreach and an intro article on micropub to give to A List Apart.
# [chrisaldrich] Also some work on getting back to my microcast since I've got some new equipment.

# MarcoZDe Hi folks! OK, so got my first hickup. I posted this status earlier: Post format is Status, post Kind is Note, Bridgy was supposed to post it to Twitter, linkback set to Show (the default): https://blog.marco-zehe.de/2018/07/25/206/
# MarcoZDe The resulting tweet has a funny URL in it pointing to Bridgy, which gives a message "Nothing to see here": https://twitter.com/MarcoZehe/status/1022071813424271360

# MarcoZDe If I then look on my Twitter user page, I see a bunch of errors relating to this post, that replies I got on Twitter, likes I received for the tweet, could not be sent back to my blog. Previously, however, I had received web mentions there, for older tweets and mentions. Any idea what's going on?

# MarcoZDe dougbeal: Now I am confused. In the syndication links (when I edit that post), I do have a link to the full Twitter status update. It was inserted there automatically after I published the post for the first time. I thought that was enough? I even copied the status link from the post's "also published on" section via the right-click menu which I then pasted above. So... What's wrong? I don't understand.

# MarcoZDe sknebel: Yes I noticed that the link in the resulting Tweet is totally bogus. I don't know what happened, was my first try. Previous web mentions on the other two blogs were from already existing tweets that the crawler found and correctly sorted out the permalinks. This was my first try at publishing with the Bridgy publisher, and it promptly gave me this bogus link.

# MarcoZDe So... Sorry for keeping to come back to this, but is this thing where Bridgy doesn't get the proper post URL some kind of known problem? Before I try again (and spam a selected Twitter timeline), I'd like to know if I'm missing something. If anyone is here who knows, or even the creator(s) of Bridgy themselves... I'd like to know, and possibly help troubleshoot the problem, if you're interested.
# jackjamieson MarcoZDe: That's probably the problem. The 2016 IndieWeb theme should work and otherwise behave the same as standard 2016
# jackjamieson I recently switched to the 2016 IndieWeb theme on my website and it's working as expected: https://github.com/dshanske/twentysixteen-indieweb
# jgmac1106 Here is a draft guide I am working as I do some very loose UX work as people try IndieWeb: https://indieweb.org/User:Jgregorymcverry.com/getting-started-with-WordPress-for-beginners
# jackjamieson MarcoZDe The IndieWeb 2016 theme is here: https://github.com/dshanske/twentysixteen-indieweb
# Loqi [pfefferle] ZenPress: ZenPress is a highly semantic, responsive, accessible and search engine optimized WordPress Theme. It provides HTML5 templates refined with microformats, microformats v2 and microdata (Schema.org). ZenPress supports a lot of OpenWeb plugins and is fully IndieWeb compatible.
# jgmac1106 Here is the SemPress page..still a stub: https://indieweb.org/SemPress
# jackjamieson MarcoZDe, I know what you mean
# jgmac1106 every WP page is also supposed to have this table: https://indieweb.org/WordPress
# jgmac1106 I did do that here: https://indieweb.org/User:Jgregorymcverry.com/getting-started-with-WordPress-for-beginners to 2016…I was thinking of taking each theme description I am writing and making sure each them has an article using that structure

# jackjami_ Hmm, I didn't see those before (I just looked at the index). I'm not sure of an easy way to address that without changing the sharing buttons plugin. Problem is the button are inserted into the same div as the content, so Bridgy can't tell them apart
# jackjamieson Unfortunately, I don't know :/

# jackjamieson MarcoZDe, to add to dougbeal you can set an option in the bridgy plugin to "Set Twitter from Post Excerpt"
# jackjamieson From the wordpress dashboard: IndieWeb->Bridgy->"Set Twitter from Post Excerpt"
# jackjamieson dougbeal I forgot the option existed altogether! Enabled it ages ago and having touched the setting since :)
# jackjamieson MarcoZDe: It shouldn't take an extra step, actually, once you set that option. You could choose to customize the excerpt if you want, but otherwise it should be generated automatically
