[jgmac1106]: Re the dictator thing...I'm just happy it isn't just me who felt some things were in need of clarity.
#
GWG
But it isn't going to happen so easily
#
[jgmac1106]
I get that, but all I am hearing is we will do for WordPress what is good for Automattic
#
GWG
I'm hoping ClassicPress gets traction, even if the result is only to pull WordPress to the middle
#
[jgmac1106]
everything is in need of clarity this whole first phase, second phase, third phase...trust me anyone who has ever worked for or owned a tech company will tell you 2-3 year road maps are shit
#
[jgmac1106]
total fiction nonsense
#
GWG
There is no roadmap
#
GWG
[jgmac1106]: Considering my feelings, I'm not sure what to do.
#
GWG
I've invested a lot in WordPress
#
[jgmac1106]
...you invested a lot in imporving yourself and learned crazy PHP skills over the last four years, what you do with that learning be it WordPress or something else is up to you
#
[jgmac1106]
hey I did just try to give you a conductor hat if we ever did a rolling HWC between NYC and DC
#
GWG
[jgmac1106]: I own a conductor's hat. I used to operate trolleys at the Shoreline Trolley Museum

I understand the frustration of WordPress’ direction and disdain for Gutenberg. I haven’t given it a fair chance as an end-user and have yet to really examine it for development purposes. That said, with >30% of the internet running WordPress, I think it’d be a mistake to completely shift gears away from the platform. It will still be years before a hardline shift to Javascript everything in a WordPress ecosystem is a thing. That ship
#
[asuh]
as Windows XP users upgraded to Windows 7, and Windows 7 users upgraded to Windows 10.
#
GWG
[asuh]: I don't hate the idea of Gutenberg. I have issues with the methodology and implementation, and how it was worked on to the exclusion of everything else
#
[asuh]
I’m learning React and getting further into modern JS to help me understand better what Gutenberg is so I can have a more informed opinion. I’m keeping faith that we’ll see good iterations of Gutenberg to fix people’s frustrations
#
GWG
[asuh]: I think that is a possibility. But for now, I have other things to focus on.
#
[asuh]
Likewise, and it’s full steam ahead for me with WordPress unless I see a better path
#
GWG
[asuh]: I have been working on non Indieweb projects, but I'm eager to hop back in. I still have a bunch of fixes before I do anything new.
#
[asuh]
GWG: yeah I’m slowly doing more than one thing. Been floating blog post ideas in my head as well
#
GWG
Well, I have too many I want to get to.
#
[asuh]
I’m overwriting Syndication Links on my site to see the difference in load size. I think it’s going to drop by more than half since my homepage is lightweight as it is
#
GWG
[asuh]: You mean, you are loading the dev version?
#
[asuh]
yes, Github repo version
#
GWG
Tell me how it works out.
#
GWG
I want to add more before releasing a new version
#
[asuh]
Looks good! Now that it’s not a sprite, uBlock Origin is effectively blocking the icons since they’re named after the social media sites. The sprite was previously showing everything since it more obfuscated.
#
[asuh]
My previous load size was just over 800KB and now it’s just over 200KB
#
[asuh]
huge difference
#
GWG
It is blocking the icons? Odd
#
GWG
You must have restrictive rules set up
#
[asuh]
yes, I purposely have strict blocking so that I can whitelist things that are okay to me
#
Zegnat
GWG re Adblockers blocking icons, this is a relatively common issue. Some block lists use extremely liberal path matching, or just straight up block $platformName.png. See https://gitlab.com/prism-break/prism-break/issues/1965

#
GWG

GWG

GWG
If I can post a note
#
GWG
I think I posted a little about it
#
GWG
Paul is using IP2. Completely different
#
GWG
I am going to add the css from that too
#
GWG
I want to capture people from both

I know IP@ is different he gets around 50-60% with the mf2 feed and post kinds
#
[jgmac1106]
that is what he is using

#
GWG
I still want to reproduce the ip2 layout in Indieweb Publisher as an alternative stylesheet
#
GWG
I like the look of IP2 also
