Hi everyone... I've launched my close-to-indieweb site at JHSheridan.com. I'm spending the day today cleaning out the test content that's up there, putting up a real post, and maybe trying to backfeed some old content mostly from instagram. I've got a few questions I'm hoping this helpful community can help me with.
#

1. Can anyone provide some insight on separating likes and retweets from comments on twitter using bridgy. I'm trying to do something similar to what David Shanske is doing here: https://david.shanske.com/2019/04/28/indieauth-for-wordpress-question/#comments
#

2. Is there any known/planned resolution to the Instagram API issues with OwnYourGram and Bridgy? Or should I just give up on Instagram for now?
#
[Rose]
For 2 it's best to ask in the dev channel - AaronPK makes Bridgy and Snarfed makes Bridgy so they can comment best on those issues.
#

3. Is there anyone with much experience integrating their site into mastodon. I don't think the bridgy publish method is quite right for me as I'd like to also be active on mastodon itself and not just federating to it. Ultimately I'd like to have similar interation with Mastodon as I can achieve with Twitter thru bridgy
#
[Rose]
Maybe 1 as well, I've not separated mine out yet πŸ™‚

4. I'd love any feedback on my website in general! JHSheridan.com. Still working out some kinks, but I'd love to add any bugs you guys find to the list
#
jhsheridan
Gotcha Rose... thank you.

jhsheridan I like the about page very much.
#
[Lewis_Cowles]
cool work page too
#
jhsheridan
Thanks Lewis! I was feeling very self-conscious about the about page, so that's much appreciated! I guess everyone feels weird writing about themselves

jhsjeridan hard to get what you want without webmention support. Mastodon is not going to add webmention support
#
[JHSheridan]
I saw something in the thread on the indieweb wiki about that. Are they just ideologically opposed to it or what?
#
jgmac1106
yes worried about endpoints as possible targets in ddos attacks and then privacy..if I share something a reply when you toot, some say it stinks to have the post waft over to your website
#
[JHSheridan]
I see
#
beko[m]
<jgmac1106 "yes worried about endpoints as p"> So… what's the difference with e.g. Mastodon? Replies are all over the place o0 I've now 1,6K posts over Mastodon and the replies fill several google search results by now on websites I didn't hear before ever. That's just how it is with a public decentral system. It's the same with "privacy"-diaspora.

[JHSheridan]: Did you know that you can "verify" your website link (adds this nice green background and a checkmark) by adding a rel="me" link to your website that points back to your Mastodon profile?
#
[JHSheridan]
I did know that! I need to add it right now. Thanks for the reminder!
#
beko[m]
yw πŸ™‚ Love this little feature.
#
[JHSheridan]
Where can I find you on Mastodon beko? I need some people to follow
#
beko[m]
github does the same btw. It's not marked but it's a nice touch.
#
beko[m]
<[JHSheridan] "Where can I find you on Mastodon"> That'd be @bekopharm@social.tchncs.de or just the blog @beko@beko.famkos.net
#
beko[m]
Still fiddling with that blog tho.
#
[JHSheridan]
is the blog using bridgy fed?
#
beko[m]
No. It uses ActivityPub [beta] by Pfefferle

<cambridgeport90[ "That is still in the works, isn’"> Think so. Hard to keep myself posted. So much going on but yeah it's beta so I really don't mind. For now it's just fun and games πŸ™‚

I think I will be working on mf2 processing Improvements next
#
[JHSheridan]
@gwg any insights on how you separated the likes out from the replies and other comments on your site?
#
[JHSheridan]
I want to do the same thing on mine
#
GWG
Semantic Linkbacks does it automatically
#
[JHSheridan]
hmm
#
[JHSheridan]
I'll have to re-test and see if maybe I had it deactivated before or something
#
[JHSheridan]
I was getting "user likes this at twitter.com" as a regular comment
#
[JHSheridan]
could maybe not having microformats plugin installed affect this? I wanted to do the microformat stuff myself
#
GWG
Unrelated
#

Try going into the webmention page and changing the settings
#
[JHSheridan]
ok... any specific setting? I don't see anything obvious that relates to the issue I'm having, but I could just be missing it.

Would love the sidebars on Autonomie as an actual sidebar as well. But got used to it now, I guess
#
beko[m]
neoaboriginal1: well you can hammer it into place using CSS override but it feels wrong to do that πŸ˜†
#
neoaboriginal1
Yes, especially for a CSS newbie like me :)
#
beko[m]
I've done this with SemPress too.
#
beko[m]
well, gotta learn some new things πŸ˜‰

Yes, now I'm learning CSS and HTML, thanks to IndieWeb.. :)
