[tw2113] That is a strong start to be sure. And even better a review for something that's been on my want to read list since before it came out: https://boffosocko.com/2020/01/10/lurking-how-a-person-became-a-user-by-joanne-mcneil/
#
[tw2113]
it's not a review, for the record. It's the book description copied from GoodReads itself for the post content
#
[tw2113]
though it looks like you have the same description on your link there
#

heh, i've been clicking the next link on IndieWebRing spots and i just realized it sent me to BoffoSocko this last time

Got a report someone's site crashed when upgrading Simple Location.

Anyone else have that experience?
#
GWG
So I can troubleshoot?

When I updated my production site I got an error I didn't get on my test site and had to fix

[tw2113], sorry, I noticed the text looked awfully similar. The important part was the meta data at the bottom really. Looks like a good start though.

GWG
[chrisaldrich]: Did you upgrade Simple Location?
#
[chrisaldrich]
GWG, I thought I did the other day when you added the moon stuff, but I'm on 4.1.5 and haven't bumped to 4.1.7 yet.
#
[chrisaldrich]
What should I expect to break if I do?
#
GWG
I just did 4.1.7 last night
#
GWG
4.1.6 had a problem
#
GWG
[chrisaldrich]: Hopefully nothing
#
GWG
Some people had to refresh the settings page
#
[chrisaldrich]
GWG: update seemed okay, but getting error on the widget: *Warning*: DateTime::setTimezone() expects parameter 1 to be DateTimeZone, null given in */wp-content/plugins/simple-location/includes/class-astronomical-calculator.php* on line *131*

I thought I cleared that error.
#
GWG
Why would it come now?
#
GWG
I need to add some sanity checks
#
GWG
Guess I need 4.1.8
#
[chrisaldrich]
Looks like the CSS changed on some of it too, so I'll have to go back in and make a few tweaks to get checkin data to present properly.
#
[chrisaldrich]
the arrow icon for location looks like it's sitting a bit low too, but that may somehow be my fault and not yours.
#
GWG
[chrisaldrich]: I didn't change any CSS in 4.1.7, not since 4.1.5
#
GWG
But I got the same error you did in 4.1.6, but it seems to still be a problem
#
[chrisaldrich]
Was that the error you heard reported, or was there something else?
#
GWG
I got it myself, so I fixed it quickly.
#
GWG
But I didn't get it on my test site.
#
GWG
This is strange. The reported errors look like they shouldn't happen.
#
GWG
[chrisaldrich]: Anything else?
#
[chrisaldrich]
GWG I don't see anything off-hand...
#
GWG
[chrisaldrich]: I noticed something
#
GWG
The sunrise/sunset/moonrise/moonset and moon phase options are only showing on the last seen widget. I just added the same to the other widgets
#
[chrisaldrich]
GWG, where does the weather widget pull it's data from when it's using a users location and/or the lat/lon set up?
#
GWG
The default weather provider
#
GWG
The station provider can actually let you select any provider
#
GWG
[chrisaldrich]: 4.1.8 is coming, with some sanity checks and the widget fixes
#
[chrisaldrich]
I finally did some digging and found a reasonable weather station about a mile from the house...
#
[chrisaldrich]
at least until I can talk someone into having one here at the house.... didn't get one for my birthday this year....
#
GWG
[chrisaldrich]: The NWS provider actually does take your latitude and longitude and looks for the nearest NWS station
#
GWG
Also, try 4.1.8. I just released it to try and fix this problem.

GWG++ for the updates and the quick fix.

GWG has 36 karma in this channel over the last year (139 in all channels)
#
[chrisaldrich]
Incidentally, I noticed that clicking on the location icon when creating a post also threw an error in the 4.1.7 version. The update to 4.1.8 seems to have fixed everything (as far as I can tell).

Thanks for adding the option to do astronomical data in all of them. It makes more sense to me to have it lumped in with the weather rather than in the last seen location widget.

[jgmac1106] Those tutorials look pretty good. Fairly simple, though there are a few definitions (like the idea of what is a Webmention) which are missing. Also the last video on photos has the correct audio, but you've recorded the wrong visuals for it. The whole video shows your Known site and not a WP site. 🙂
