# [Will_Monroe] @GWG thank you. I'm going to take another shot at watching the workshop all the way through tonight.

# [Will_Monroe] @GWG I'm still working through the video but my initial question is still baffling me: why can't I make an original post in reply to this post (on a site I'm sure is configured correctly) and achieve a webmention on the remote site? When I run my site through indiewebify.me my h-card shows up.
# [Will_Monroe] It doesn't appear that way: https://boffosocko.com/2020/12/01/indieweb-advertising-cards/
# [Will_Monroe] I don't see anything showing up in the likes, reposts (although my post was a "reply" so maybe that's relevant)
# [Will_Monroe] I hadn't thought of that...he might!
# [Will_Monroe] I just assumed that his site was probably "working" but I didn't consider moderation
# [Will_Monroe] Although he does seem to have more likes than when I first posted. Maybe he's just not ok with my "reply" : )
# [Will_Monroe] @GWG just did a quick check with this tool and got this result https://telegraph.p3k.io/webmention/14FGppkPBhrSKXgIVL/details
# [Will_Monroe] Do you have any suggestions?
# [Will_Monroe] that was a suggestion that chris made for test purposes
# [Will_Monroe] I thought this tool--https://telegraph.p3k.io/send-a-webmention --was just a way to diagnose whether webmention was working.
# [Will_Monroe] Seems like telegraph sent it for me...but my WP instance isn't doing the job. Chris confirmed it.
# [Will_Monroe] I'm using a theme that Chris hacked on during the workshop last month. It has some of the code from your posts but not all of it.
# [Will_Monroe] @GWG other than the telegraph link, is there another way to test what is happening when I attempt to send webmention?
# [Will_Monroe] I'm not familiar with that.
# [Will_Monroe] Oh! Right. That's to manually reply. I understand.
# [Will_Monroe] Maybe I do too...my problem seems like a basic issue for WP themes with Indieweb plugins and functionality: I want to send/receive webmention from my own site, without forms or other tools. But the theme itself is not ready to use the indieweb plugins I guess.

# [chrisaldrich] Circling back to [Will_Monroe]'s issues last night. Even with a dreadfully marked up theme, the webmention plugin should send the notifications (they just won't be as pretty and may be missing avatars), so it's most likely the cron job issue (or something related) that GWG mentioned. I just wanted Will to know that it's definitely not something theme related based on my reading of the issue.

# [Will_Monroe] [chrisaldrich] thank you! I really appreciate that tip. I tried activating a theme that might have fewer surprises such as GWG's IW26 but I wasn't able to send webmention with that theme either. I'll start investigating WordPress cron jobs as a possible point of failure.
# [chrisaldrich] Where the theme and the mark up does become a bit more important is in how the receiving site is able to parse your post for displaying it. The receiver will look for the post type (like, bookmark, reply, etc.) and details about the name and avatar to potentially display them. But even if it doesn't find those pieces marked up by your theme it will still receive the notification and allow them to show something.
# [chrisaldrich] The sending part is only handled by the Webmention plugin itself.
# [chrisaldrich] The fact that telegraph will find the correct URLs and send something is the proof of that...

# [Will_Monroe] [chrisaldrich] so if I understand correctly, in the example I was toying with yesterday, Telegraph successfully sent webmention for my _reply_ to your original post but failed to send any avatar image information and maybe failed to send any _h-card_ related information. And the issue with the avatar image and possible h-card problems would be an issue with the WP theme and not the possible WP cron job issues.
# [chrisaldrich] correct. it came through, but the name was off a bit (I fixed it manually since), and there was no avatar.
# [chrisaldrich] Incidentally, for additional context, it's the Semantic Linkbacks Plugin that does the parsing of the received posts for making replies prettier within one's comment section.

# smaffulli[m] i am going nuts... is there a way to show linkedin in the h-card widget in wordpress? How?
# [Will_Monroe] [chrisaldrich] this is helping to anchor my WP theme tweaking whilst also pointing me towards a WP issue that I just need to solve if I'm going to have a site with basic functionality. Very helpful.

# smaffulli[m] <GWG "smaffulli: Add the link to the o"> i did, my user profile has the link to linkedin but it's not showing up
# smaffulli[m] it says "Show Rel-Me" and it's ticked
# smaffulli[m] it shows github, twitter and mastodon but not linkedin
# smaffulli[m] I added details to instagram and microblog (which I don't use) and those show up in the hcard... it's only linkedin ...
# smaffulli[m] tried entering the linkedin URL with www and withouth, with https and without... same result, the entry is not shown on the vcard
# smaffulli[m] * tried entering the linkedin URL with www and withouth, with https and without... same result, the entry is not shown on the hcard
