hey GWG have you ever looked at https://eay.cc/ ? wordpress site that handles reply webmentions successfully but 500s on like webmentions. really odd
#
GWG
[snarfed]: the next part of the webmention code is mine..based on your code...so I'm the hold up now... in the upgrade
#
[snarfed]
is that related to this bug? I'm guessing no?
#
[snarfed]
regardless. just fyi!
#
GWG
[snarfed]: Not necessarily, but it reminded m5
#
GWG
It could be something we've fixed due to rewrite of the parsing code
#
[snarfed]
his site has been failing that way for months, if not years. definitely not a recent change
#
GWG
Yes, I'm saying we haven't deployed massive code rewrites in years.
#
GWG
Stable is 4.x, we're working on 5.x which is a major rewrite as part of the Linkbacks merge
#
GWG
So, all new parsing code.

Is there a best practice for WordPress permalink settings for IndieWeb (and IndieWeb plugins)? I’m running into some issue I can’t figure out where WP is creating wrong permalinks for items without titles. It might be related to using categories in the permalink combined with posts that have multiple categories.
#
[Chris_Lott]
For example, this post: https://fncll.org/blog/geekery/558/ is generating a permalink that can’t be found based, it appears, on the 2nd/child category: https://fncll.org/blog/geekery/pkm-productivity/558/
#
[Chris_Lott]
I didn’t have this problem before I installed various IndieWeb plugins, but I’m unsure at what point it became a problem! Figured I would ask before I go through the tedium of disabling plugins, testing, re-enabling, etc.

[Chris Lott] @MacSparky In MPU 633 (https://www.relay.fm/mpu/633) you seemed to have some Notion alternatives in mind, cautioning your guest to look around before committing, but didn’t give any specifics. Any suggestions of apps we should look at when evaluati...

Chris_Lott is there any chance that you changed your permalink structure in `Settings » Permalinks` menu?
#
chrisaldrich
typically posts without titles are assigned the next post-id number
#
chrisaldrich
are you using the optional category or tag bases on that page?

Another thought Chris_Lott: it's probably sanitized/stripped, but I notice your category there is (P)KM with the parenthesis, maybe the parenthesis are causing an issue?

Chris_Lott, with respect to our conversation about reply contexts, your post https://fncll.org/blog/geekery/pkm-productivity/zettelkasten-note-taking-what-i-wish-i-knew-about-smart-notes/ is a good example. Visiting that page, my reading of it is that you've made that video and you're building the note taking app rather than commenting on or making a note about it. I was excited to try it out for a minute until I realized...

[Chris Lott] I’m building a note-taking app to help you study, learn, think, write and publish-with maximum efficiency and consistency. Check it out at: https://join.flowtelic.com. this video I give an introduction to the Zettelkasten note-taking method where y... https://fncll.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/yqKspwjXu18.jpg

Apparently Loqi things so too... :)
#
[Chris_Lott]
That kind of post should be much better going forward…it was clear in my site’s previous, non-IndieWeb life--- that this post was (an autofed from a playlist) YouTube video. Not so clear now!
#
chrisaldrich
I know that feeling. I think I have a lot of old posts that just look wonky now.
#
chrisaldrich
It does make me wonder though if anyone has custom built a WordPress site to be set up as a zettelkasten with bidirectional links.
#
[Chris_Lott]
[chrisaldrich] I do have the permalinks customized to use category and postname…I’ve used something along those lines forever, which is why it’s strange that it’s a problem now. I’d prefer to keep sensible/non-numeric-URLs, but I’ll have to see if I can 🙂

[LMNHQ] Description Slippy allows you to take slipbox or zettelkasten style notes from within WordPress. Notes are stored separately from your posts and pages, but otherwise use all of the features of WordPress. The best way to use Slippy is to add short, r...

On first blush, it looks like that plugin+webmentions might be a cool way to go.
#
chrisaldrich
sometimes I'll add custom slug names to notes (since they have empty titles). I think that Quill will allow you to set a slug name if you like.
#
chrisaldrich
What is quill?
#
Loqi
Quill is a simple app for posting text notes to your website using Micropub https://indieweb.org/Quill

i wonder how well that backs up for the content creators

“Also, all of this should have been a blog or a newsletter.” lulz. I agree regarding threads over 3 tweets long
