Hello @gwg Can you tell me what the names of these fields are: Syndication Logs and Syndicated Links? I want to use a plugin (Yoast Copy) to copy posts and when I do, those fields are copied. But I can specify the ones to not copy.
#
GWG
Links is where I store the syndication links...the URLs for the syndicated copies. Logs are for the POSSE
#
GWG
So you probably dont need the logs

#
[TMichelleMoore]
So the name is “links”?
#
GWG
It would be mf2_syndication in the database.
#
GWG
I've never used Yoast Copy, so not sure how it displays it
#
[TMichelleMoore]
@gwg Thank you. I will share some screenshots in the coming days.
#
[TMichelleMoore]
@gwg That worked! So the logs don’t have a field?
#
GWG
They do. Just, the logs are for troubleshooting purposes usually. So, you don't really need them.

#
[TMichelleMoore]
@gwg Correct. I just don’t want them to copy when I copy a post and by specifying the field name, I can eliminate them from being copied.
#
GWG
Yes.
#
[snarfed]
oh btw GWG out of curiosity why do you parse and whitelist errors in the logs? as opposed to just showing the full text
#
[snarfed]
I've seen "unknown error" a number of times when there was a useful human-visible error message in the response
#
GWG
[snarfed]: I don't parse them. Unknown error means it got to the end of the function and didn't pick up anything.
#
[snarfed]
that's confusing then. I'd still encourage you to just show the raw response, at least on errors, since the current code often doesn't show useful messages in responses
#
GWG
It is supposed to return the raw response in the data property.
#
GWG
It hasn't been?
#
[snarfed]
I've seen it say "unknown error" at least twice when BF itself returned a useful human-visible error message
#
GWG
It should be a WP_Error of type Unknown Error, with the full error message in the data property
#
GWG
Bridgy returns errors in what format?
#
GWG
I think I see the problem. It is expecting JSON. I should be checking to see if it is JSON as opposed to assuming it is.
#
[snarfed]
Bridgy itself, JSON, BF often plain text
#
GWG
So, that's an issue bug fix
#
[snarfed]
thanks!
#
GWG
Fixed for the next release.

Hey [dshanske] I will switch 5.x to the main branch, then lets beautify the facepiles a bit and release it!!!
#
[pfefferle]
and than fix the bugs asap 🙂
#
[pfefferle]
maybe we should test the migration stuff in a live env first

should we add a CLI command to run the migration?

After work, what do you need me to do to help get it over the line?
#
[pfefferle]
so, then some last love for the comments template and then release it
#
GWG
Other than prepping the announcement?
#
[pfefferle]
I would love to have some last tweeks for the comment template
#
[pfefferle]
or is it OK to have the facepiles on top=
#
GWG
Okay. Did we arrange to deactivate Semantic Linkbacks on upgrade?
#
[pfefferle]
AND THAT!
#
GWG
[pfefferle]: I like them there, so maybe that's a setting
#
[pfefferle]
the problem is, if they should be at another place, we have to use a hook
#
[pfefferle]
but OK, let's keep with that ftm.
#
[pfefferle]
can you change the PR, to remove the WIP status?
#
[pfefferle]
and we have to write the changelog

no hurry!

Semantic linkbacks will be deprecated

GWG
Yes, there will only be one plugin to lead them all

[pfefferle]
But not one plugin for all IndieWeb functionalities
#
starrwulfe[m]
Also how can I insert the shortlink into a blank in this message GWG?
#
starrwulfe[m]
The above is what goes into the comment section of all posts on my site. I've seen some where it's just a "add your webmention URL here" and that's it... I want to give some detail but not sure what verbiage is best, so just fishing for ideas from the community.

There's an off button for it and a custom option
#
starrwulfe[m]
The custom option is OK, but can it accept shortcodes in-line?
#
GWG
starrwulfe[m]: No, I don't think we run it through the shortcode function
#
GWG
Exactly what shortcode would you want?
#
starrwulfe[m]
%shortlink% so I can say:
#
starrwulfe[m]
- Make a post replying to %shortlink% on your website.
#
starrwulfe[m]
- "search for %shortlink% in your mastodon/ActivityWeb client"
#
starrwulfe[m]
- Use comment para.de (would need to add the shortlink as part of the query URI)

GWG, [pfefferle] - This huge update of the webmention plugin does not include your ideas of custom post type for comments/webmentions, does it?

#
GWG
It will have custom comment types for Webmentions
#
starrwulfe[m]
I hope it will help when making replies via microsub stop using the "link" format as well.

starrwulfe[m]
I just found out that formatting is what makes all my mastodon posts post the URL to the post only; Pleroma, Friendica and others ignore it and expand the whole thing since they have no constraints; of course everywhere else is handled by Bridgy so it does what it does via webmention/micropub. I didn't know AP plugin was reading those formats, and of course it doesn't play nicely with micropub with respect to this.

I guess its issue filing time.
