# gregsplace Finally, a bit of success... made my first post to my site: https://gregsplace.net/2023/05/15/saying-hello/ At a bit of a loss on what to experiment with next.
# gregsplace I've tried experimenting with the plugins that enable access from Mastodon apps, but so far no joy. I get the login screen from my site, but authorizing fails, giving me a message in each app I've tried that retrieving account data has failed
# gregsplace ActivityPub, Friends and Enable Mastodon Apps
# gregsplace I have both of those plugins installed as well
# gregsplace The one plugin I wasn't entirely sure if I need is Syndication Links, as I'd prefer not to mess with the annoyances that working with siloed services brings to the table

# [Tim_Nolte] ↩️ [TMichelleMoore] do you have the LiteSpeed Cache WordPress plugin installed as well? I've been using the Simple Location plugin & I host in LiteSpeed. However, I rarely use the map and just have the location description & weather active. I've used it with my running posts.
# [Tim_Nolte] Well, the biggest issue I have is that they removed location data from the WordPress mobile app, which I believe originally populated the Simple Location data, so now I always have to start location-based posts in the mobile app and save them as a draft so that I can actually login via the web to my WordPress site to populate the location data. This isn't anything to do with the plugin of course but a problem with using a
# [Tim_Nolte] WordPress site on mobile in general.
# [Tim_Nolte] As for the plugin itself, I've not had any real issues, other than some frontend formatting which I just addressed with some custom CSS.
# [Tim_Nolte] So you have something setup on your phone to do that?
# [Tim_Nolte] Ah, interesting.

# gregsplace Ugh, the ActivityPub/Friends plugins plus their associated additional plugins didn't work for me, so giving Bridgy Fed a try.
# gregsplace I'd be curious if replys from other fediverse users will work. Made an experimental post that includes the info needed to follow my site in it: https://gregsplace.net/2023/05/16/experimenting-with-bridgy-fed/
# [chrisbergr] I don't see your post here https://mastodon.social/@gregsplace.net@gregsplace.net
# gregsplace If I'm not mistaken, you'd need to follow @gregsplace.net@gregsplace.net directly, at least that's what my site's user page on fed.brid.gy seems to indicate
# [snarfed] gregsplace your post needs a link to http://fed.brid.gy to confirm your intent to federate it, try adding that and resending the webmention. https://fed.brid.gy/docs#how-post

# [chrisbergr] gregsplace: I do follow 😉
# gregsplace Snarfed, thanks for the heads-up, got the issue fixed & replies from Mastodon now will come through properly for that post. Now to correct the other one so it works correctly too.
# [chrisbergr] It works 🙂 Exept for my avatar on your website
# gregsplace chrisberg, not sure how to get that working if that's even possible, but your comment came through just fine. Also, just in case no one else noticed, the comments interface has an auto-approve option... found that out when approving comments
# gregsplace gRegor, not sure where that comes from, but hazarding a guess it's SemPress doing that. Honestly don't have the technical know-how to resolve that at this point in my journey
# gregsplace gRegor, nope, not running that. I'm wondering if W3TC is potentially modifying something it shouldn't and caching the results
# gregsplace meant the caching plugin I'm using
# gregsplace At one point I tried the MF2 Feeds plugin, could that be causing the issue?
# gregsplace I removed it at some point, as I wasn't entirely sure if SemPress also handled the microformats stuff for the feeds or not
# [chrisbergr] btw I is interesting, that gregsplace is the third person in a pretty short period who tried the friends plugin and dropped it immediately. Plus Tim, who said he would never use it. For the three of us, the main reason was the user accounts that are created in WordPress. What was your reason, gregsplace?
# gregsplace One of the additional plugins, Enable Mastodon apps didn't work for me, tried the AP/Friends ecosystem both under PHP 7.4 and 8.2 and neither worked. Couldn't even find my site from my Mastodon account, let alone connect to it as its own instance, so I kicked it to the curb and switched to Bridgy Fed
# gregsplace Wondering if Automatic will force users to pay for the functionality now that they have their mitts on the ActivityPub plugin
# gregsplace smirks
# [chrisbergr] Maybe this will be a premium functionality for .com users. Since you can install plugins, I assume you are not one. Therefore, this will not affect you
# gregsplace Nope, self-hosting on a Linode based out of Germany
# [chrisbergr] That explains the fast page load 🙂
# gregsplace May also be due to W3TC, as I have both Redis and Memcache handling various caching duties. It's fast for me too, even from behind this VPN connection
# gregsplace Interesting, last time I looked at my site's dashboard, it was using Wordpress 6.2, but now I look and it shows 6.2.1
