Built and released today: ~ THE TRUNCENATOR ~ https://t.co/3EAF0Tal #indieweb (http://waterpigs.co.uk/notes/356)
#
barnabywalters
one thing I’ve noticed in the recent outbreak of app•net mania is that netbot’s cross posting is really bad
#
barnabywalters
e.g. use of – before the URL (implies the URL represents the author)

barnabywalters: I need to sort out auto-posting to Twitter. I'm planning to store the tweet URL locally in my database and include it in the UI and feeds etc.
#
tommorris
I've been a bit busy today and haven't done anything on Ferocity. my Wikipedia bot has been approved and is busy making hundreds of edits every hour.
#
barnabywalters
tommorris: wow, what sort of edits does the bot do?
#
tommorris
it's trying to ensure that every article is tagged as being part of a WikiProject
#
tommorris
mostly today it's been doing insects.
#
barnabywalters
tommorris: sounds like a great idea! I'm recording the tweet (and FB) ids of my syndicated content but I haven’t been able to put them to good use properly
#
barnabywalters
tommorris: ah, fab
#
tommorris
insects, TV shows and fish. but lots of insects.
#
tommorris
as for what to do with them: "retweet" buttons, perhaps
#
tommorris
for people who are into that
#
barnabywalters
tommorris: my dad is a full-on insect nerd. Not sure if he uses WP much in his studies though
#
aaronpk
barnabywalters: I record the tweet id/url, and use it to display a twitter "retweet" link on my notes http://aaronparecki.com/2012/277/note/4
#
barnabywalters
aaronpk: ah, that’s a great use. Tempted, but I’m against including that sort of action on the webpage
#
aaronpk
I can see that
#
barnabywalters
too much of an assumption. But then again it may explain why few people ever retweet my content :)
#
aaronpk
it's more useful on my articles actually, people do use it there more than on the notes
#
barnabywalters
that’s interesting anayltics
#
tommorris
showing the responses might be interesting or useful
#
tommorris
although it opens up a nice gateway for spam.
#
aaronpk
yes that would also be cool, and also now would violate the twitter TOS

fb actually offers the best response-pulling-in facility, but it’s API is hideously slow
#
barnabywalters
one of the reasons I haven’t bothered setting up FB syndication on the latest iteration of my site

I haven’t quite figured out the best place in POSSE/syndication-models to link to it

aaronpk: I recently imitated your in-reply-to box, also adding the tweet id (if it’s a tweet) to my twitter syndication :)
#
barnabywalters
I need to get your extension ported to safari next
#
aaronpk
Yes that would be great! I have no idea what's involved in making a Safari extension
#
barnabywalters
not much different to a chrome extension I believe
#
aaronpk
cool. feel free to fork this and add a "safari" folder! https://github.com/aaronpk/IndieWeb-Reply-Browser-Extension
#
barnabywalters
although Chrome, safari and FF all handle UI differently
#
aaronpk
I suppose that should live on the indieweb organization too
#
barnabywalters
aaronpk: I think with existing projects people just fork them onto indieweb
#
aaronpk
ah right
#
barnabywalters
so my ideal for developing extensions would be to just have "a script" which is injected in different ways depending on the browser
#
barnabywalters
that would allow it to work on iOS too, through a bookmarklet
#
barnabywalters
safari extensions are code-signed, not sure how this affects distributing them as open source projects?
#
barnabywalters
as I’m forking anway, I’ll fork it to indiewebcamp
#
@BarnabyWalters
Looking into potential use of http://www.culater.net/software/SIMBL/SIMBL.php to add #indieweb reply to the mac twitter app (http://waterpigs.co.uk/notes/363)

@BarnabyWalters
@sandeepshetty do you use IRC? Lots of good #fsw discussion on #indiewebcamp channel and the IWC wiki (http://waterpigs.co.uk/notes/370)
#
aaronpk
note: I made Loqi un-shorten the stupid t.co links before posting to IRC!
#
barnabywalters
aaronpk: I noticed! Big improvement
#
barnabywalters
during the short time I was running ThinkUp, the thing that struck me the most was just how many t.co links got broken fast
#
barnabywalters
oh sh*t, wrong twitter accnt used :O
#
barnabywalters
if it wasn’t for these logs capturing it forever, it’d be a transient mistake ;)
#
barnabywalters
that is another advantage of replying through my site — no danger of accidentally using the wrong account
#
barnabywalters
signing off. goodnight
