whats the status of releasing an update for webmention? I wont die, but its really annoying my wordpress
#
wagle
to wit:
#
wagle
Strict Standards: call_user_func_array() expects parameter 1 to be a valid callback, non-static method Webmention_Plugin::init() should not be called statically in /var/www/html/wp/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 525
#
GWG
wagle: Waiting on pfefferle. I can tell you how to manually edit it until then.
#
Loqi
GWG: tantek left you a message 4 hours, 57 minutes ago: ok I collected those things in https://indiewebcamp.com/2016/NYC2/Planning#Wiki_Pages so we can keep track and update as we get the tasks done http://indiewebcamp.com/irc/2016-06-16/line/1466111934719
#
wagle
GWG: no real problem at the moment, if its not fixed in a week or so, I'll want to do something about it
#
GWG
wagle: Anything else you want?
mlncn joined the channel
#
wagle
nah, sorry if I sounded annoying, tried not to
#
GWG
wagle: No, I was serious. Anything else you want in the plugin?
#
GWG
wagle: To improve it
#
wagle
oh.. I installed it because it was on the list, but I havent figured it out yet.. I ran out of "set it up!" mania.. should have another bout of that in a week or so though
#
GWG
wagle: If you need help with any of the plugins for WordPress, I'm here.
#
wagle
cool! thanks!
#
GWG
wagle: Webmentions are the basic communication tool of the Indieweb site
#
wagle
I left off kinda facinated in figuring out microformat2... is that still The Thing? is there a them that supports it that doesn't squander vertical whitespace? I like stuff to fit on the screen (currently using *cough* 2010)
#
wagle
theme
#
wagle
have pointers to sempress, mf2_s and wordpress-uf2
#
wagle
have to find several hour slot to sit down and really understand themes and umm php
#
GWG
wagle, some themes try to style mf elements.
#
GWG
As a result, WordPress-UF2 changes the look of the theme. It shouldn't.
#
GWG
SemPress is a complete theme.
#
GWG
Mf2_s is a starter theme...no design
#
GWG
Starter themes are like blank canvases.
#
GWG
WordPress-UF2 tries to dynamically add markup, but that isn't 100%
#
wagle
what should I look at now (several months later) that that I'm about to start *actually blogging*?
#
Loqi
Just generated the first draft of this week's newsletter! http://indiewebcamp.com/this-week/2016-06-17.html I'll generate a draft again tomorrow, so please add to it before then! http://indiewebcamp.com/this-week#How_to
#
wagle
.. and as a beginner
#
wagle
experienced programmer though
#
GWG
wagle, try Independent Publisher. Someone just added Microformats 2 to it.
#
wagle
oh, ok
#
GWG
And if you find a theme you like with a developer who accepts pull requests... I would help set up basic Microformats 2 in their theme.

#
wagle
i use 2010 because it doesnt squander vertical whitespace (all the rage), prolly bit rotting.. I need to figure out ho to adjust the whitespace on a modern 8) theme
#
wagle
ok, sounds like a plan, thanks!
#
GWG
wagle, we have discussed doing a fork of one or more of the bundled themes.
#
GWG
I would consider maintaining one for 2010 if you were going to use it.
#
wagle
ok, lemme grok themes better first though
#
wagle
otherwise, it might be a waste of your time
#
GWG
WordPress doesn't do extensive updates to their bundled themes.
#
wagle
I should wake back up in a week or two
#
wagle
I just monitor my wordpress site, and it wanted three updates while screaming the above error over and over.. so I thought I'd ask
#
wagle
I'm happy to try wrapping my brain around indieweb stuff, just havent done that yet
#
GWG
wagle: We're all happy to help.
#
wagle
cool, thanks!
#
GWG
Not everyone is a WordPress person though.
#
GWG
But we're all Indieweb people
#
wagle
yeah, I thought about moving to octopress, but setting it up looks more annoying.. thought I'd figure wordpress out first, then figure out where to move to
#
GWG
wagle: As part of the WordPress group here, we need more people.
#
GWG
Please don't go
#
wagle
hahaha.. kinda sloggy on a small machine, but ok.. dont worry too much though, I'll probably have to learn enough about wordpress to be useful before wandering off to octopress or Known (?)
#
miklb
octopress development has been spotty at best, I'd stick with Jekyll if you explore that path
#
wagle
ah ok
#
miklb
new version was supposed to drop over a year ago, hasn't been released. Way behind Jekyll development.
#
miklb
but warning, making it IndieWeb is more difficult. At least when it comes to sending webmentions or supporting micropub
#
wagle
someone pointed me at https://github.com/voxpelli/voxpelli.github.com I see wat you mean
#
miklb
he supports micropub, so there is a lot more logic in the templates, as do I.
#
wagle

does anyone here host their sites on a second server for backup? how do you link to that alternative backup URL?
#
sknebel
cweiske: I don't, but I'd probably try to redirect DNS (or if you use Cloudflare or another CDN, their backend) and not publish a second domain. Or only link to it specifically afterwards
#
sknebel
cweiske: I don't have a plan for loss of domain(s) though... maybe I should spread them around between registrars a bit
#
cweiske
planned use case for me would be that my domain gets taken away or blocked
#
cweiske
so having a second domain in case the first gets blocked or lost
#
sknebel
oh, ok
#
cweiske
the second domain would have to be in a total different jurisdication
#
sknebel
not sure what's best there, and if pre-announcing it actually is a good idea then
#
sknebel
could of course serve the same site under different domains and mix them in use, but I'm not sure if people would remember that anyways when they can't reach your site. + potential for confusion
#
sknebel
for popular sites like sci-hub they can spread the word relatively quickly, not sure how well that works/how important that is for a private site

hm, suddenly I'm logged into the wiki even if not visiting via HTTP... did something change there, or are I'm just imagining that log-in was HTTPS-only before?
#

login has been https-only, pretty sure that didn't change recently

#
KartikPrabhu
is that not bad for security reasons?

hm, $wgSecureLogin is still set to true
#
aaronpk
oh that's just whether it should redirect to https when signing in
#
aaronpk
now i can't find the setting

#

over HTTPS I have "indiewebcampUserID" and "indiewebcampUserName" cookies with "secure" flag, but indiewebcamp_session isn't secured

What is this week?
#
Loqi
This Week in the IndieWeb is a weekly digest of activities of the IndieWebCamp community https://indiewebcamp.com/this-week
#
gRegorLove
Looks like Posts about the Indieweb is catching stuff from last week, like Shane's first post?
#
aaronpk
huh yeah looks like the time range is a bit off
#
aaronpk
oh oops. turns out the date it uses for filtering stuff like that is 7 days before the time the script was run, not the actual week time window
#
gRegorLove
Would it be difficult or cause problems to show the p-summary if there's no dfn, like for the hwc event pages?
#
aaronpk
for what?
#
gRegorLove
New Wiki Pages
#
aaronpk
that *is* the p-summary
#
aaronpk
the wiki adds p-summary around the sentence the <dfn> tag is in
#
aaronpk
the script that generate /this-week is just parsing the mf2 on the wiki pages
#
gRegorLove
? events/2016-07-13-homebrew-website-club doesn't show a p-summary in the latest version of the email under new wiki pages
#
gRegorLove
The event pages use explicit p-summary, but no dfn
#
aaronpk
oh, so your question is actually this: why don't the events under "new wiki pages" show the summary
#
GWG
Anyone willing to comment on a microformats 2 job I'm fiddling with?
#

the answer is because right now it's only looking for h-entry, not h-event. i can change that.
