[eddie] gotcha. So it’s pretty common. In my head, I feel like it’s kind of cheating to just use one of those services, but I guess at least if nothing else to start using them until I feel a need to change.

aaronpk there's nothing wrong with using services like this, since they don't interfere with your ability to own your identity. at some point you might wish to take over receiving webmentions yourself, and then you just change your webmention endpoint and nobody even notices the difference.

aaronpk and yeah i'm a big fan of using services to bootstrap things so you can focus on the part that is specific to your implementation like storing and displaying

sknebel fair enough, I guess that depends on which parts you use with things like that. I've used Tasker, a somewhat similar android app, quite a bit, and I wouldn't miss >80% of its features. But with others, they would have broken the vast majority of the value I got from it
