Out of curiosity anyone in here use opennic dns?
#
TheGillies
Seems it would lower the barrier to entry of owning your own domain
#
skippy
most registrars now provide free DNS.
#
skippy
Namecheap does, at any rate. Pretty sure Hover does, too.
#
aaronpk
Prettt sure we have other barriers to conquer before we get to the financial barriers
#
skippy
late to the conversation, but Fastmail has been *great* at anti-spam for me. They enforce the SMTP RFCs pretty strictly, so block a lot from ever getting in.

I get more spam in my inbox with Fastmail, but it's one or three pieces a day, as opposed to GMail which lets EVERYTHING in and tries to figure out spam/not-spam.
#
TheGillies
aaronpk: .indy is an opennic domain :)
#
skippy
I also have a ProtonMail account, but i never use it, so don't know how good it's anti-spam is.
#
aaronpk
pretty soon we're all just gonna be running our own dns servers and we'll have to first tell someone which dns server to find each other on before we even get to the domain name
#
TheGillies
skippy: protonmail anti spam is pretty good. I use it as one of my "main" accounts
#
skippy
and then we'll all run out own RIP-enabled routers and pass aorund route tables. ARPAnet all over again!
#
skippy
TheGillies: good to know! I'm keeping it there if I need it. I also like ProtonVPN pretty well.
#
TheGillies
aaronpk: That's pretty much what opennic is except you don't have to tell anyone because they already peer with everyone e.g. .bit

EveryDNS was awesome. Then they sold it to Dyn, and Dyn was bought by Cisco. So sad.

re DNS: my registration is with Namesco but their DNS is running out of Digitalocean which does that for free and with an API

I find it amusing that snarfed kept Jerry, Zarani, Daisy on the screenshot on https://brid.gy/about but merged me and Waynn Lue into "Jenny Lu"

I had to turn off comments on my recent posts due to them being used as a vector for anonymous abuse. New site will use Web Mentions.
