Hi, is there any recommended server software for personal sites that *isn't* based on PHP? Known and WordPress both are, and I'd prefer basically any other language if possible. Would a static site generator like Jekyll work? I get the impression that static sites have a lot more trouble supporting micropub and webmentions.

[miklb]
each have their own set of hurdles, but there is definitely some examples of static sites.
#
[miklb]
What is static sites
#
Loqi
A static site is a website that is served by a web server directly from the file system https://indieweb.org/static_sites
#
oodani
Hmm. I'll be hosting from a VPS so it'll probably be easier just to host a dynamic site to begin wtih.
#
[miklb]
When I used Jekyll, I kept the repo on GitHub but used Travis CI to deploy to my VPS so I could use https://github.com/voxpelli/webpage-micropub-to-github
#
Loqi
[voxpelli] webpage-micropub-to-github: Self-hosteable Micropub endpoint that publishes to Jekyll by committing to GitHub
#
[miklb]
Travis also allowed me to build with plugins for webmentions
#
[miklb]
I haven’t tested Known to know how easy it is to set up and get going. WordPress has a lot of plugins to get started if you want to just jump in.
#
oodani
Yeah, that'd work. Hmm. What're you using now, if not still Jekyll?
#
[miklb]
I switched to WordPress, but am (slowly) in process of building some satellite sites in Jekyll.
#
[miklb]
So my WP site will be a true public social profile, and my “blogging” will be compartmentalized on their own sites.
#
[miklb]
this is my jekyll project. I’m working on switching to a CSS framework for a 2.0 version of sorts https://github.com/miklb/jekyll-indieweb

I wonder is there's anything like that for Hugo. I've been thinking about switching to Netlify to do my site builds

here's my Hugo automation for skippy.is: https://github.com/skpy/hugo-skippy.is i've been cogitating on ways to add webmention and micropub support.

See https://seblog.nl/2017/09/15/3/like which is syndicated to https://twitter.com/Sebsel/status/908589323871821824 which redirects to the original tweet.
