Hello sknebel
#
sknebel
(at least I hope you have a good day. I'm currently stuck at uni. Storm arrived faster than expected and public transport in the entire region is shut down)

Storm in Germany, sknebel?
#
sknebel
Zegnat: yes
#
Zegnat
Hmm, my dad might be flying to Germany today, so hoping you keep the storm in the Berlin area
#
sknebel
Zegnat: north-east
#
Zegnat
That should be fine. He was in the UK this week, and I expect he’s flying to Düsseldorf

DAT/@beakerbrowser and the ideas behind them are so humane. It's the infra+ux that @indiewebcamp need. Comparing transport w/IPFS now...

aaronpk
[markmhendrickson] yeah! I need to do a few tweaks for pagination cause the pages got way bigger than I expected, and then I need to flatten it to static HTML for archiving!
#

This is pretty good, reminds me of when we wanted to do a mentor kinda thing in indieweb: https://alistapart.com/article/be-a-mentor

I haven't qualified as an apprentice for years, having owned my domain for years. But I still need mentors. :)

i don't think I've ever known a 'web community' as open and helpful as this
#
sknebel
dgold: not sure if I should be happy or sad about that. or both ;)
#
dgold
is that 'mentorship'
#
dgold
sknebel: there have been open communities, and there have been friendly communities
#
dgold
but open _and_ friendly? worth more than the sum of its parts
#
PFMurph
that sounds like an ideal community
[kevinmarks], marinin, jmelesky, nitot and jeremycherfas joined the channel
#
sknebel
dgold: re "is that mentorship", for me mentorship has a clear aspect of having a specific person as a mentor (Vs having a community that'll help you if you have issues)
vivus joined the channel
#
dgold
sknebel: i'm struggling to see the benefit of a mentor -v- community
#
dgold
i've gotten better at so many things, due in no small part to the range of interests and approaches i've found among you fine folk
j12t joined the channel
#
dgold
with a 'mentor', I don't think that would necessarily be the case
#
sknebel
dgold: yeah, sounds good. a dedicated mentor might have the benefit that they'll keep track of your progress and nudge you, that part can easily get lost in a community. but not everyone needs that

sknebel
(e.g. the article talks about a set schedule and things like that)
#
Zegnat
I can also see how a mentor might help introduce different parts of the techstack one-by-one. But I don’t think the apprentice thing ever really stuck with the community.
#
dgold
having been an apprentice, I guess I just have an antipathy to the entire idea
