@kevinmarks, you've been the biggest fraction of my feed advocating to decrease Facebook usage. Do you know of any good ways a group could publicly post events? (eg. a theatre group's performance) That seems to be the biggest hangup among people I talk to.
(twitter.com/_/status/984019291178782721)
#
Zegnat
Hmm. Something like calagator?
#
Zegnat
What is calagator?
#
Loqi
Calagator is an event hosting silo and aggregator that supports importing events marked up with hCalendar https://indieweb.org/Calagator
#
Zegnat
Can also be self-hosted to get rid of the “hosted silo” aspect, IIRc

will indiewebauth support webauthn ?
#
cweiske
if someone implements it
#
Zegnat
Hi pjz! We were actually discussing that earlier today in the development channel (#indieweb-dev). You could read it back in the logs here: https://chat.indieweb.org/dev/2018-04-11#t1523437738972700
#
Zegnat
We couldn’t come up with a reason why it couldn’t support it. But I do not know anyone actively working with an implementation either.

ok, so to fix bridgy facebook for new users, i have to either have them log in with indieauth, like i currently do with instagram, or just ask them for their web site (but not log in with it)
#
snarfed
any opinions?
#
aaronpk
is there a risk of having them enter a website that is either incorrect or is someone else's?
#
snarfed
let's see. for publish, no
#
snarfed
for backfeed...
#
snarfed
not really, no
#
aaronpk
like, would it not work if they entered `http://example.com` vs `https://example.com/` or something?
#
snarfed
the web site's owner still has to link posts to bridgy publish or synd link to FB posts
#
snarfed
oh i'd canonicalize, follow redirects, etc
#
snarfed
ain't my first rodeo
#
aaronpk
i'd say as long as they can't make a mistake or do something malicious, it's better to have them just type it in. doing an actual login adds a lot more steps.
#
snarfed
yeah. sigh.
#
snarfed
indieauth would surprisingly be easier since i already have the full UI flow for instagram
#
snarfed
ah well!
#
aaronpk
heh hmm
#
snarfed
although honestly i'm not sure why i did that either
#
snarfed
should just have them type in their username
#
Zegnat
I guess it may prevent needlessly bridging things? They must already have IndieAuth/RelMeAuth available, and you discover their Facebook/Instagram from there, so it gives you the most assurance you can get about them having written things right and actually wanting to couple the specified personal URL with the specified silo.
#
benharri
hi hello
#
Zegnat
btw, snarfed, the IndieAuth flow for Instagram seems to be outdated. Requires a me parameter coming back from the endpoint.
#
Zegnat
should probably check the bridgy github for that
#
Zegnat
Hello benharri
#
benharri
how's it going
wolftune joined the channel
#
snarfed
Zegnat: i already discover web site from silo profiles on most other silos, and any "less assurance" hasn't really happened or been a problem
#

#
