Ok, the markup is done -- https://markdain.net/ -- is there an `h-feed` validator?
#
Loqi
Mr. Mark Dain
#
aaronpk
not exactly. I usually look at the JSON it in XRay to see if it finds everything https://xray.p3k.io/parse?expect=feed&url=https%3A%2F%2Fmarkdain.net%2F&pretty=true
#

Seems to work great, you get the photo in the author (so that's not conflicting)

I'm looking at the Decentralized Web Summit registration: https://decentralizedweb.net/
#
j12t
They ask "would you like to lead a hands-on workshop".
#
j12t
What about those of us who are going we all say something about an IndieWeb workshop, and we collaborate to run it?

re bridgy Facebook backfeed...scraping m.facebook.com doesn't work, it doesn't serve posts unless you're signed in
#
[snarfed]
that was my last idea. if anyone else has any ideas, feel free to speak up! otherwise bridgy facebook is probably dead altogether.

j12t: are you going to the meetup in a couple weeks?
#
aaronpk
Maybe we can talk about it with them then
#

I'm still a little irritated at the $400-1500 "sliding scale" price tag of the registration of the main event

@colelyman
@kaushalmodi your site has inspired me to convert my @GoHugoIO site for indieweb standards. I see that you are an #emacs user, do you recommend a mode to edit the theme source files? I'm currently using webmode, but the indentation is terrible for anything but HTML tags. Thanks!

morning all. Slpet well past my indieweb hour so happily not going to do anyting today
#
Zegnat
jgmac1106, was there any reason I was refered to by given and family name on your blog? It keeps catching me when people do that, and leaves me wondering
#
jgmac1106
Do you prefer you handle? I usually just ask loki and copy a link to your blog and use howver loqi responded
#
jgmac1106
who is [zegnat]
#
Loqi
Martijn van der Ven is a long-time web tinkerer living in Sweden. Pronouns: he or they. https://vanderven.se/martijn/ https://indieweb.org/User:Vanderven.se/martijn/
#
jgmac1106
so I use that
#
Zegnat
Who is Tantek?
#
Loqi
Tantek Çelik is the co-founder of IndieWebCamp and works on open web standards at Mozilla https://indieweb.org/User:Tantek.com
#
Zegnat
That also gives tantek’s full name, but you still only refered to him by his given name ;)
#
jgmac1106
Cn go back and edit, just let me know how you like to be represented
#
Zegnat
I don’t really care, I just think it is weird to refer to people by the full combination of given and family name outside of super formal context
#
Zegnat
But I am of course not a native English speaker (or writer), so I was wondering if there was some specific thought process behind it
#
Zegnat
Copying Loqi, is of course, a valid process! :D

jgmac1106
back to your ideas about blogging, then blog in your native tonue, an english only web is not an open web\
#
jgmac1106
but yeah atleast in American English you mention someone’s full name first, and then either just last name or first name after that
#
jgmac1106
We don’t even say “given and family name” really. It is first and last
#
Zegnat
I know, but I don’t like the semantic ambiguity of “first” and “last” on an international level.
#
Zegnat
Example from the personal names FAQ, if you can’t just go with a single “full name”, still avoid things like “first name”: https://www.w3.org/International/questions/qa-personal-names#splitting
#
jgmac1106
now going and changing all my forms, thx
#
aaronpk
Zegnat: how do you prefer to be referred to in writing online?
#
Zegnat
jgmac1106, check out that entire page in general. And other pages they have created for internationalisation of the web. Really great resources!
#
Zegnat
aaronpk, I don’t care. But if I think about reallife, just my given name “Martijn” makes the most sense to me. Online handles are all fine too, like Zegnat. It is really just the use of my fullname that often surprises me.
#
Zegnat
Obviously I am not protective of it, my whole identity uses my fullname as URL, it just catches me of guard

Interesting discussion of what people prefer to be called
#
jgmac1106
call me anything but late for dinner
#
jgmac1106
but yeah [zegnat] I will always default to however people have their h-card set up on the wki is how they want to be represented
#
jgmac1106
….going to set up his own wiki page....
#
jgmac1106
super stoked [zegnat] to check out the citation tool. Somethign like that could really take off
#
sknebel
I don't think that's a valid assumption. people are likely to share their full name there, even if that's not what they prefer, for completeness sake
#
sknebel
+ if anything, their homepage is a better source, not everyone marks up their wiki page
#
Zegnat
jgmac1106, please leave lots of comments, there is definitely work to be done there
#
jgmac1106
yeah I link to their homepage always, just asking loqi is a quicker workflow to finiding it

#

though I need to set up things like tantek and posse issues, thats cool

which would send you a webmention at same time

[zegnat] Okay to share the progress widely or do you want to hold off a bit?
#
Zegnat
Whatever you want jgmac1106. I feel like it might need some more work on h-cite in general if you have useful usecases, so public debates can be more giving

I’m gonna be at the IndieWeb Summit in Portland OR on June 26-27! It welcomes creators who care a lot about improving the web, of every stripe & skill level. Also has a travel assistance fund for underrepresented web-care-a-lot-abouters. https://2018.indieweb.org

Wait, @Twitter cannot separate content created before and after the user was 13? Seems like a straightforward condition to me, given that every tweet has a timestamp. Mind you, tweets from the first 3 years get exported with time set to midnight. #Indieweb
