The things you sometimes learn randomly: RSS 3.0 stopped being XML based.
[kevinmarks] joined the channel
#
[kevinmarks]
That was a parody
#
[kevinmarks]
RSS was at 0.92 or so, and the RDF fans did an iteration, made it RDF, and called it 1.0
#
[kevinmarks]
Dave Winer didn't like the RDF version, so did a few changes from 0.92 and called it 2.0
montag4511 joined the channel
#
[kevinmarks]
Aaron Swartz then parodied Winer's post and made up RSS 3.0 as plaintext (which is ironically closer to json feed)
#
Zegnat
Oh, I know. I had just never seen aaronsw’s RSS 3.0 reply to the whole thing ;)
#
Zegnat
Very close to YAMLFeed
#
[kevinmarks]
Feedparser has 3.0 support, because Mark Pilgrim knows how to overdo a joke
#
sknebel
clearly YAMLfeed needs an update to be compatible with RSS 3.0 then
#
sknebel
or a backcompat mode
#
Zegnat
RSS 3.0 uses an empty line as item separator, it seems. I don’t think we can make that work with YAML parsers
#
Zegnat
I was actually looking into the RSS spec to see if it had link-elements that could be used to advertise webmention endpoints.
#
Zegnat
Didn’t mean to unleash RSS 3.0 on the world again :P

It looks like we don't have a page for "Tweetbot" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Tweetbot is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#

Tweetbot was a popular [[Twitter]] client which suffered from critically reduced functionality on 2018-08-16 due to Twitter disabling parts of their public [[API]]. https://twitter.com/tweetbot

I don't know if I agree that Tweetbot is a "was". It's had to follow Twitter's lead in disabling features, but it's still a piece of commercial software under active development, right?
#
tantek__
jmac, I suppose I'm projecting to the near future, expecting "was" to be true in the short term, and not wanting to have to remember to update the wiki page. If you think there's a chance they'll pull out of their inevitable demise, feel free to update it to "is" :)

[kaniini] the fediverse has many multi-tenant softwares out there: Mastodon, Pleroma, GNU Social, PixelFed, etc. these are *great* software for their usecase. but the multi-tenancy trades some level of intimacy for allowing multiple users on the instance. b...

Single tenant vs multiple has always been a bit of a struggle in Known too. At least from anything I have seen on the support side. One of the first questions is always whether you are a multi user installation or just a single user's website
#
tantek__
why does it need to ask you? why not presume single user until you go to create an account? no need to ask up front
[jgmac1106] joined the channel
#
[jgmac1106]
@zegnat when I use the multiuser themes it is a great private network
#
Zegnat
tantek__ during support. E.g. when people ask questions about enabling indieauto with known.
#
Zegnat
The CMS itself doesn't struggle. It just rolls either of the options you pick.
#
tantek__
the asking / need to pick an option is the struggle
#
Zegnat
That I agree with. I would have to search around, but I am positive I remember people accidentally ending up with multiuser installs for just themselves.
#
tantek__
right, default single user
#
[jgmac1106]
@zegnat it is one toggle question that converts a Known site
#
[jgmac1106]

#
