Barriers to diversity, a centralization of our own, and is federated overrated? It's your < 10min update on the #IndieWeb community! This Week in the IndieWeb audio edition for August 18th - 24th, 2018. https://martymcgui.re/2018/08/25/203054/

Hello, gRegorLove

Hiya GWG
#
GWG
What is new in your Indieweb experience?
#
Loqi
It looks like we don't have a page for "new in your Indieweb experience" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "new in your Indieweb experience is ____", a sentence describing the term)
#
gRegorLove
Not too much. Been doing some microformats work. Going through hreview-aggregate examples currently.

I'm rebuilding my mf2 parsing system. cleverdevil's mf2 schema gave me the idea
#
GWG
Hi, snarfed
#
snarfed
hi GWG!
#
snarfed
how goes the bug triage
#
GWG
snarfed: No new reports I can work with.
#
snarfed
ok! so then...testing yourself, and solicit more beta testers from the power users you know of, and then get ready to cut the release?
#
GWG
I'm using it in testing and tried a variety of apps and they worked. There is still an issue with Omnibear, but there's something that I think will resolve it on their end.
#
snarfed
who else is a heavy user besides us and miklb?
#
snarfed
chrisaldrich? ...?
#
GWG
He was going to test, but had a day long power outage at his house.
#
snarfed
whoa, ugh
#
snarfed
who else?
#
GWG
He's back online now, and was going to get to it
#
GWG
There's dougbeal. Haven't seen him around

Good morning IndieWeb

Zegnat: jeremycherfas left you a message 19 hours, 57 minutes ago: I've never quite seen the point of sharing EVERYTHING I follow, but a selection of the most valuable to me, maybe. The joy of feeds is hat it costs nothing to leave them in the reader if they're dormant, because when they do come to life, there they are.

hi
#
kiith
found that irc still exists, so adding channels to (probably) lurk on
#
Zegnat
Welcome kiith :) IRC just had its 30th birthday, as good a time as any to find out about a few new channels!
#
Zegnat
Do you have a website? That’s what we’re all about here.

Zegnat: I no longer have a personal website, though I maintain v01d.sk - site of a local hackerspace (~5 people including me)
#
kiith
admittedly there's not much activity there
#
kiith
(using a static site generator from markdown, but thinking about going more basic and rewriting it in clean, minimal HTML, very little CSS, no JS)
#
Zegnat
Never too late to also run a personal website again ;) Maybe run a Homebrew Website Club at the hackerspace and see if any other people are interested in having their own identity on the web
#
Zegnat
What is Homebrew Website Club?
#
Loqi
Homebrew Website Club is a bi-weekly meetup of people passionate about or interested in creating, improving, building, designing their own website, in the same structure as the classic Homebrew Computer Club meetings https://indieweb.org/Homebrew_Website_Club
#
kiith
maintaining something bi-weekly would be impractical (that's the frequency of our hackerspace meetups!), but maybe a one-off or once in a few months could work
#
kiith
the hackerspace consists mostly of people disgusted by the complexity of modern web with all the facebooks and clouds and javascripts and non-standard chrome features - but I think a more 'brutalist' approach may work
#
kiith
thanks for the link
#
Zegnat
Seeing how most of the IndieWeb is about owning your own data and identity online, outside of social medias and clouds (“silos”), seems like a good fit :D

Does anyone know if it is possible to add Indiepaper to the Feedbin’s Share and Save, and if it is what url would I enter?
#
sknebel
Not directly at least, since I think http headers have to be set for it to work
[kevinmarks] and [pfefferle] joined the channel
#
[kim_landwehr]
ok, thanks @sknebel, thought I’d ask
#
sknebel
It should be quite easy to add as an option though, so maybe it can be added as an option
#
sknebel
... that was kind of redundantly worded
