He's not got webmentions set up yet, but I suspect Michael would appreciate some words of encouragement on his new site: http://michaeldunne.me/2018/08/30/hello-world/ particularly from any librarians, academics, or photographers

!tell metbril I see youy're taking an interest in the Grav webmention plugin; I tried using it and in the end gave up because the data it returned were so inconsistent, depending on the source markup. Tried to get it to use XRay instead but my ability wasn't up to it then.

Hi jeremycherfas! Today the last eposide of our daily bread podcast?
#
jeremycherfas
Yes! I actually scheduled it early yesterday, so I have had a day of hardly knowing what to do with myself.
#
Zegnat
Guess this is a welcome back to you then, haha :D
#
jeremycherfas
Trying to decide whether to spend $25 to upgrade Scrivener as I try to pummel my bread notes into book for, or whether there might be a better way.
#
Zegnat
Well … there is always HTML!
#
jeremycherfas
There is a free 30-day trial, so may use that.
#
jeremycherfas
HTML for the final output, maybe. But you have no idea how many bits and pieces I have in MD files.
#
Zegnat
Ah, yes, actually collating everything into one piece is the hardest part of such a flow

↩️ I'm making a big push to implement a lot of #indieweb features on my site, and so far I'm surprised how damn easy it all is. Great resource here: https://indiewebify.me/

kevinmarks: “Don’t show me replies to this tweet or tweet thread anymore, and don’t allow retweets of this tweet anymore’.” Is a pretty interesting idea. Essentially is making it easy for either a CMS to not display the webmention endpoint on that permalink or to just ignore all replies sent to that permalink
#
Zegnat
I think “don’t allow retweets” is a little weird. That’s a sharing action that seems core to Twitter. And if I want to show your tweet on my timeline to my followers, surely I should be allowed to share? (Without having to share a screenshot of it.)
#
[eddie]
That’s true, i wonder if it could (in twitters case) disable quote tweets to prevent dunking
#
[eddie]
Of course in the open web, you can prevent reposts really, but you can prevent notifications of reposts, quotes and replies

#
[eddie]
In the open web you can’t prevent reposts really*
#
GWG
That reminds me, what should a repost look like?
#
aaronpk
what is a repost?
#
Loqi
A repost on the indieweb is a post that is purely a 100% re-publication of another post. The act of reposting is an umbrella term that covers the general practice of republishing another post typically on the same service or silo, but more and more across sites https://indieweb.org/repost
#
aaronpk
I think that's pretty well documented there, and has plenty of examples
#
GWG
Someone said that of I don't include the entire article, it isn't a repost
#
[eddie]
I think for an article, you would just need to repost whatever a “preview” is of the article on your site. So either title or summary
#
aaronpk
I dunno, if you're not showing the full thing you're not really reposting it, you're just sharing a preview of it
#
aaronpk
tumblr does reposts of articles right? look there for examples
[jgmac1106] joined the channel
#
petermolnar
tumblr... well, yes and no. Tumblr is more like one, original post, and reposts are comments
#
petermolnar
it's confusing due to the way it presents it
#
aaronpk
I thought if you reposted a thing on tumblr then the entire thing ends up shown on your own profile page
#
aaronpk
(not talking about how a post displays the fact that it has been reposted elsewhere right now)
#
petermolnar
it does. and strictly speaking, it's a complete repost. However, in reality, it's more like a chain of reactions to a source.
#
petermolnar
but it's true that even if the source is deleted, the chain sticks
#
petermolnar
so you're right, it's mostly a repost.
#
vilhalmer
it used to be a complete copy of the post, though more recently they've made it impossible to edit the op
#
vilhalmer
so that you can't make it look like people said something they didn't
#
vilhalmer
or it's harder, anyway
#
aaronpk
so that sounds even more like a pure repost then
#
vilhalmer
it is an enforced repost, yeah
#
vilhalmer
tumblr works mostly like an email chain
#
petermolnar
YES that's a perfect summary there
#
aaronpk
GWG: think of it this way. if you say you reposted something, and i'm following you in my reader, then my reader should be able to show me the full thing you are reposting without having to go fetch the original.
#
vilhalmer
of course they enhance it with guaranteed attribution for each reply
#
aaronpk
if you've only shared a portion of it, then you haven't reposted it, because I have to go fetch the original to show the whole thing
#
GWG
You see the debate here
#
aaronpk
the debate? no, it sounds like there are various things added to the idea of reposts here
#
[jgmac1106]
bookmark or share=snippet repost=entire source
#
GWG
My debate on how I display them when I get different thoughts. It is harder for me because people install my work a lot
#
GWG
jgmac1106, I like that
#
GWG
But how do you distinguish between things you keep for yourself and things you want to share?
#
GWG
Share specifically, not share because everything is shared
friedcell joined the channel
#
jgmac1106
If I like it for myself, its always something I share…but that’s how I role
#
jgmac1106
but in the links manager you can check “keep it private” pages I “unlist” or password protect
#
petermolnar
but wouldn't snippet be a quote and not a share? when is which?
#
petermolnar
or is that a different thing?
#
aaronpk
"share" is kind of meaningless at this point
#
aaronpk
cause everything gets called "share"
#
jgmac1106
I see the snippet being the excerpt a feed includes
friedcell left the channel
#
petermolnar
ok, we certainly have "link", that is obvious
#
jgmac1106
a quote is me selecting a specific segment and saying X said Y, with possibly a reaction
#
petermolnar
there is a snippet type share/repost, which is either viewed as quote, share, repost
#
petermolnar
and there's the full copy, which can only be a repost
