# chrisaldrich Hello indieweb!
# dansup chrisaldrich: Hi!
# Loqi GWG: [eddie] left you a message 1 day, 1 hour ago: I saw you mention IWC Online, earlier! I brought that up yesterday in Meta. Take a look over here and feel free to continue the conversation in Meta https://chat.indieweb.org/meta/2018-11-08#t1541705550957900
# chrisaldrich howdy GWG, dansup.
# chrisaldrich GWG, have you recovered from your sojourn to Germany?
# dansup Just working on this massive PR for pixelfed. https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/pull/547
# chrisaldrich sebsel++ for the quote of the week: "Oh IndieWebCamp. You come with a few things you want to for your own website, then you do some completely other things, and after that you leave with an even longer list of things to do for your own website."
# chrisaldrich How is pixelfed? I haven't looked at it since the day it launched (and was so overwhelmed that it turned itself off...)
# chrisaldrich GWG: a helpful tip is to do your best to eat on the timeschedule for your desired timezone. It'll help you reset your clock a bit faster, though travelling during daylight saving can be additionally treacherous.
# chrisaldrich There's so much that we could catch up on certainly! I don't even know where to begin....
# chrisaldrich Tonight around 7:30 Pacific perhaps? If it doesn't throw your sleep schedule off?
# chrisaldrich Is anyone here a member of Lobsters that could send me an invitation?
# chrisaldrich chris@boffosocko.com is fine... thanks aaronpk.
# chrisaldrich They did finally get webmention working when I'd heard last didn't they?
# chrisaldrich /Lobsters also makes me wonder if BradEnslen or Kicks Condor have played around with it relating to discovery...
# dansup chrisaldrich: Its going quite well, pixelfed.social has over 3k users now and 12k+ posts! https://pixelfed.social/api/nodeinfo/2.0.json
# dansup Its taken longer than expected, but it ships with some pretty neat features like the Help Center. https://pixelfed.social/site/kb/getting-started
# chrisaldrich Makes me wish we had a graph of IndieWeb related services with user number/post figures for various services.....
# chrisaldrich Such a graph could also be an interesting publicity thing for the various services themselves...
# chrisaldrich Though it could also (falsely) give a sense of an unneeded horserace....
# chrisaldrich Reminds me of a nice UX/UI related article I read in The Atlantic earlier today about notifications for feedback from social services: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2018/11/why-ratings-and-feedback-forms-dont-work/575455/
# chrisaldrich GWG: Let's do it then. I should have the monkey in bed by then. Though let's try to keep it to an hour if we can.
# dansup yeah true, if you add nodeinfo support you can get listed on services like this https://the-federation.info/p3k
# dansup on pixelfed you can hide your follower/following count/lists and eventually like/share counts! https://pixelfed.social/PixelFed
# chrisaldrich Is there a pixelfed specific mastodon instance? Could be cool if there were a photography specific instance that relied on it....
# dansup I'm not sure, I use mastodon.social/@pixelfed for the official account.
# chrisaldrich dansup, it could certainly help to make the UI for photo posts a more important post type/thing within the fediverse.
# dansup For photography, some users have complained that pixelfed is more like Instagram or Imgur (and its true) so I am trying to add some photographer friendly features.
# chrisaldrich Mastodon is very slick, but could do a better job with photo specific posts...
# chrisaldrich dansup, I know a lot of photographers like the set up and interaction that Google+ supported, so that may be a place for inspiration before it disappears next year.
# dansup cool, thanks for the tip!
# chrisaldrich In some case I suppose it it just that already, but if there were an instance that only did photos....
# chrisaldrich have any instances drastically changed the presentation of mastodon?
# chrisaldrich I suppose I hadn't thought of it that way... though I've also only just registered for an account a moment ago.
# chrisaldrich I'm just trying to collect all the rel-mes.... ;)
# chrisaldrich though at that i'm always curious to see what the native experience is like within products...
# chrisaldrich There is definitely a bit of brightness going from a native (dark) Mastodon feed to the Pixelfed site (white).
# dansup aaronpk: a lot of people say they want to log in to pixelfed from their mastodon account when what they really need is a proper indieweb site with AP support
# dansup that said, I know a lot of people don't want to host their own instance or website and that is what is great about federation. Pixelfed has atom, rel=me and am planning more indieweb features!
# dansup Yes, I agree. I have limited pixelfed.social to 10k users. I try to close registration and promote other instances every few months
# dansup aaronpk: good idea! https://github.com/dansup/php-micropub :)
# dansup will have to finish that library first
# dansup yeah nothing yet, planning on server support first
# dansup yeah a pixelfed micropub server
# chrisaldrich aaronpk, thanks for the lobsters invite. :)
# dansup Ah ok, yeah that would be awesome

# [Csongor] thanks for the nice words :)
# [Csongor] and ... how can i help you? :)
# [jgmac1106] hey @Csgognor welcome! We have a dedicated WordPress channel as wll

# [davidmead] morning all
# [davidmead] I’m seriously looking at moving from Wordpress to something like Jekyll next year. Anyone done a migration like that before?
# [jgmac1106] [davidmead] check with @petermolnar he is a WordPress refugee... I currently migrating, going with a few static pages and long form articles from my Domain and Known on a subdomain to handle the stream...
# [jgmac1106] Though I may just archive my WordPress site using redirect plugins rather than try to import something somewhere else.... Very hard
# [jgmac1106] Then add a universal search somehow on my homepage
[Vincent] joined the channel
# sknebel [davidmead]: haven't done it, but there's a bunch of tools for that, e.g. https://github.com/benbalter/wordpress-to-jekyll-exporter. nice thing with static sites is you can easily try offline if it works as you want
# [davidmead] Good to know [jgmac1106]. I’ll check Peter’s blog to see if he has anything there.
# [davidmead] That’s great [sknebel]. Thx
# [davidmead] Just finding WP moving further away from what I want. Looking to simplify and minimize. Though the thought of going through the multiple years of syndicated content is very daunting
# [davidmead] And there’s stuff there from when my blog was on Tumblr, Known, and pervious WP installs too 🙂
[eddie], tglobe and [astillanet] joined the channel
# [jgmac1106] yeah every time I have tried export/import it fails...would need to chunk up the bits into smaller bites, thus strategy of archive and search...I have blogs all over the place
# [jgmac1106] ....through ten years of different WordPress themes......some with mf2, some without, the majority with something in between

# [chrisaldrich] Is there a name for the "affliction" of using and changing through multiple CMSes over time? Or even social silos? It seems quite common...
# [chrisaldrich] Has anyone started building a micropub client for import /export yet? It seems like there was a camp session on it a year or so ago.
# [davidmead] Slightly related question - I just added a SSL cert to my domain. Do they need time to propagate like a DNS switch? The warning in WP about microp on a non-https domain is now gone, but Chrome still says it’s unsecured
# [davidmead] micropub
# [jgmac1106] [cleverdevil] kinda did for Known with json and Facebook
# [jgmac1106] Micropub migration be awesome
# [davidmead] [sknebel] Oh, thanks. Don’t know how as they should all be coming from the WP that’s installed on that domain. Guess I’ll have to dg into where that is occuring

# [davidmead] I just ran a crawl on https://www.missingpadlock.com/ [aaronpk] and it does seem to be a lot of stuff cropping up in the ‘passive mixed content’ errors
# [davidmead] good to know. thx
# [davidmead] I didn’t think of that tbh
# [davidmead] Also finding links to favicons on Google that are breaking http://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=ixdacleveland.org

# [Khurt] [davidmead] be sure to set the correct WordPress Address and Site Address in General Settings.
# kisik21 aaronpk: can Quill parse hashtags in notes and send them as tags? would be nice to have for a twitter-like experience
# kisik21 I think this is a cool feature to add! can be low-priority something but I think it would be kind of easy... I could do that with regex serverside if I knew any PHP (nanopub is PHP)
# aaronpk noted, thanks https://github.com/aaronpk/Quill/issues/104
# kisik21 actually I think I need a proper micropub endpoint, not this php monstrosity in, like, almost two thousands of files of libraries?
# kisik21 Downloaded it from the internet and patched it
# kisik21 with my lack of PHP knowledge it's kinda hard to maintain (even if it's working only for a week)
# Loqi nanopub is a micropub-endpoint for use with Hugo (but should work with any static site generator) written by Daniel Goldsmith https://indieweb.org/nanopub

# [cleverdevil] What is Fathom?
# Loqi It looks like we don't have a page for "Fathom" yet. Would you like to create it? (Or just say "Fathom is ____", a sentence describing the term)
# [cleverdevil] Fathom is a privacy-oriented website analytics tool that is available in a paid hosted version or a self-hosted open source version – https://usefathom.com
